Ah yes, brilliant move! let’s take the 3 Series, split it in two, and slap it onto a 2 Series. Because clearly, the perfectly capable current 3 Series just wasn’t good enough, right? I'm pretty certain it would sell quickly though..Perfect marketing gimic for SA consumers 🤦‍♂️

I know it’s meant to be a homage, but I don’t think that wheel works on the 333 version

But the marketing team knows how to pull fanatics in hey

Keen to see what these sell for because those are only the reserve prices. Same auction shit as with the M2 CS.

I would hope that nobody glorified this blatant stupidity with attention, but reality is that all 66 will sell and many will show up at the usual scalper dealers marked for R1 bar more the next day.

"I agree, I shall not, directly or indirectly, sell, transfer, assign,
or otherwise dispose of the Homage Edition Vehicle (including any title, ownership rights,
or substantially similar rights, and any accessories or components sold or leased with the vehicle)
to any third party prior to the expiration of twelve (12) months from the date of delivery
and transfer of risk and ownership of the Vehicle."

There are a few things to take note of:
Limited editions of turds, are just that, turds in short supply.
People are morons, limited supply will cause the morons to assume value.
These turds will sell like hotcakes to morons.

A match made in heaven.

No REAL car people will give a damn.
The morons buying this will then convince BMW that this kind of artificial market works for "limited" launches and my crystal balls tell me there are more of these turds in the future.

BMW SA keep missing/ignoring the key reason the 325iS and 333i were special... They were not just a visual option pack. If they want to do justice to the originals, either increase the capacity of the straight 6 to 3.5l or something bigger than stock or even put a v8 from the 5 series into a 2 series.

Watch this space.... I think you're actually paying that price for these two car's manuals and getting the "limited edition bs" free of charge. Soon there will be a homage edition to the original X3 2.0d.
There was the Mzansi Edition ... and I saw a good damn number of them till now on the roads...FFS

Yeah and you got those in basically every model and at a premium. Ignorance is bliss I guess. Like the "330is" that came out as another "homage" to the 325is, and you coughed up a lung to get one versus a standard 330i. The fundamental issue here is that BMW try (successfully it seems) to appeal to the guys who's dad's had or were exposed to either an iS or a 333i, and they think that having that nomenclature on a modern mass produced 2 series is like hitting the jackpot, would be like meeting that Tijuana hooker with a conscience. Anyways, I digress... BMW will continue to rape their heritage with these "homage" editions based on cars that are legendary, because a) they had race pedigree like the iS or b) because they were borne out of circumstances at a particularly dire time in South Africa's political history and were thus incredibly unique to South Africa, like the 333i was, or the 745i that had the M88 which was also unique to SA. But nooooooooooo. Lets put some pretty badges on, hoof the price up by R400k and wait for the ignoramuses to run out and part money for something that is, in essence, worthless (geez I'm becoming more like Llew here!).

Why don't they just leave well alone. You want to do something very special? Do something like this:

"BMW SA keep missing/ignoring the key reason the 325iS and 333i were special... They were not just a visual option pack. If they want to do justice to the originals, either increase the capacity of the straight 6 to 3.5l or something bigger than stock or even put a v8 from the 5 series into a 2 series."

OR.... pull out the old E30 jigs, put 21st century brakes, diffs and electronics in it (so restomod effectively) and sell THAT, now THAT I would figure out how to part with R2mil for, or fire up my wife's OnlyFans page.

The problem with Homage cars that we see playing out here is that BMW seems to think any crap with an Homage (read: limited) badge and a mad price will sell extremely well.
The problem is, they are right.
It will.

And worse, they will trade hands to other idiots who believe theyre buying pedigree somehow.

Ultimately, I have realised I dont care, let them homage the shit out of homage. Let them sell absolute shitboxes.
Because when you do repeatedly dumb things to a brand, you drive away clients who have more than a passing association with a brand. You drive away the die-hards, and the people you pander to, theyre going to drop you like shit, when the next Homage shitbox from a shitbox brand comes along.
But again, BMW is turning into that shitbox brand organically and of their own making.

Theyre trying to be a proper race brand, but then also produce cars that are basically Lego with lights and nonsense everywhere for no good reason.
BMW as a brand is now fully schizophrenic.

We are also our own little echo chamber here and have no idea how little the average person knows or cares about anything technical. You may as well be talking Greek.

The reserve prices are so incredibly inflated that even if the balance of the auction proceeds go to charity to improve these optics it still looks bad 🤦🏽‍♂️… but again that’s to us that sees that it’s just Tupperware stickers an ticking option boxes that are not unique. I am not sure how well the auction will go with 66 cars. The CS was actually special and a handful so it made sense to some degree at least

I think @FiRi@Rennzport should start stocking up on these accessories as I am sure many are going to try make their 2 series / M2 look like these editions with the waistline decals, double rear spoiler, black door handles, splitters etc.

100%
Although this is probably far more costly than slapping on accessories as a limited run. It would be really cool though and lead to something unique and special.

The RnD costs to do something like that with modern laws and rules would be *immense*. To sell 2 or 300 units? Doesn't make business sense really.

This is a case where just "leaving it" probably was the correct move.

Ironically there is a small chance that these do somehow become valuable, the 333i badge on an M2 has to make it somewhat unique and in 25yrs US based BMW collectors might be interested to *complete* collections. But you'd need to buy and sit on it for years and years in that hope (and it'd really be a hope).
