2.8 pinging/knocking

Howdy.
I have noticed a slight pinging under hard acceleration. Landy idles at about 1000rpm which sounds high to me. Timing sounds too fast even at idle(gut feel). Speed sensor is buggered(or wiring leading to it) so motor only revs to 5k. Shouldn't the knock sensor back of the timing when it senses pinging?
Could it be that because of the missing speed signal to ecu that its now running in limp mode and discarding some inputs from sensors and running default settings?

Yes, having a faulty speed sensor can definitely cause those issues as the ECU is not getting the necessary information from the engine.

Thanks for the info will make work of sorting the speed sensor and then diagnose further if there is still an issue.

Did the Landy come with single vanos or non vanos? To change the knock sensors is a story. You will probably have to remove the complete Intake

Not sure, guessing it a single vanos. Intake is off now, heater bypass pipe chafed through. That same pipe has squashed one knock sensor tube slightly. Can't see if its nicked it or if its just slightly flattened. I gather it works like a mic and translates that signal to something the ecu can use?

Is it an expensive fix if faulty?

Just on that same note, seems like the front sensor tube was squashed quite a bit by the bypass hose. Possibly that restricted it marginally. Looks like its still in tact.
