Realistically I imagine you could get that for R130k though

You already have one s54 though....

So why not try another.....

To add on as well.. This silver one is 4WD... That surely is a rare thing :D

Unmolested E36s are becoming a rare sight; I would imagine that a pristine example in 2 years’ time may cost you 200k so it might be worth the investment.

Lol, a R140k E46 M3 is actually a R340k E46 M3...ask anyone who was stupid enough to buy one at R140k...

My friend Mark bought one for R140k, spent more than R200k in the last 3years and its still a piece of shit...

Slightly off topic but seeing as there have been so many complaints about the dealers poor service levels and workmanship over the while, off how much value is a full dealer service history?

Its good to see that there are still a few well kept older M cars out there......good luck to the OP in finding your chosen one

Goodluck with your search for an m3.

Prev to me a fsh with a dealer is often worse than with an indi as generally speaking the fsh with the dealer will follow the 25000km service intervals which is crazy.

Its a case of having proof that parts have been replaced and regular maintenance has been carried out, you know what you are buying into.

That depends on the indi as i know indi's that are worse than dealers....

The dealer or indy will follow the long service intervals if you ask that off them. They happy to service the car once a week if you happy to pay.
This is on the owner, not the mechanic.

For me full service history is important as you efficiently have someone who will vouch for the car.

S50B30 > S50B32 in my opinion simply because it doesn't suffer from the ridiculous issues with the VANOS like the B32 :fencelook:

Take that Silver M, looks lovely :inlove:
All of them suffer from vanos irrespective of the engine.

The most I ever noticed with a b30 is noisy vanos.... Other than that, not much else compared to the horror stories I've seen and heard on in the b32

For the sake of spreading knowledge we recently did an M3 s50b30 which had a defective vanos body.
The one way pressure valve was inoperative and even after a complete overhaul we had to chuck the unit away.

Equally a noisy vanos is an inoperative vanos.

Hypothetically speaking, if I had found a 1998 Avus Blue E36 M3 with 99000km on the clock with full dealer history. Is she worth:

R160k ?? :blab::blab:
I know this car, I have been in this car, I know this cars owner.

BUY THIS CAR.

Best all around M3 I have ever seen. Owner uses a towel to get into it to avoid scuff marks.

After Fordkoppies similar recommendation I tried to buy it tonight but the seller is off to Zambia tomorrow. Was prepared to buy it blind.

Fully agree but I'm typically talking about a good one. There are only a few dealers. But hundreds of independent garages. And finding a good one is actually quite easy if you listen to advice. Which can be found on this forum.

A good independent workshop will advise against the long service intervals. If they don't. Go somewhere else as they are not interested in maintaining your vehicle properly. And I said generally speaking.

Yep very true! I know of very few mechanics that actually know what they doing, a lot of them also let greed get the better of them and charge insane amounts of cash.
