I suspect that the lady driver may have engaged a pavement at some stage and caused some friction between the plastic and the rubber :)

If the lower front retaining screws are not in place then on the freeway the wheel well lining is pushed back by the force of the wind against the tyre, this causes the tyre to eat away the lining. Replaced many over the years for this exact reason.

Some real OCD there Peter great work! :clapper:
Is the duct coming in at the fender liner some sort of brake cooling thing?
This would at least make it a lot better that the Z4M where all the air goes straight onto the centre of the tire... :skit:

In closing I drove the car some 200Kms back to its owner and what has particularly impressed me is the manner in which the engine delivers its power.

The torque is constant and although lower than its s50b32 and s54 siblings a lot more usable.
I cruised at 4000rpm in 5th gear and (7.8L/100Km indicated) and not once did I need to change down to fourth to overtake.

I think I get it now when enthusiasts speak with great affection about the s50b30.

What a lovely engine.

Great words!

Oh, and thanks for the call, and sharing that enthusiastic moment/realization with me.
