This car was offered to me for sale but not sure what to pay for it? Clock has stopped at 385000 odd kms some time ago, so safe to assume it has on about 400k plus kms. It is in fair condition with not major body defects that i could see. It is a manual shift but has cloth seats. I have spoken to the owner in Nov last year but cannot recall what he replaced or repaired in the last year or two as i wasn't very interested in it at the time, so will have to get all that info from him. It is his daily, so i assume it is still in reasonable running condition. What i intend doing with it/to it is to fix the sloppy gearshift, clean the seats and carpets, repair the seats if they are worn, try and get the right rims for the period and give the car a good service and try and repair/replace the speedo. I had some clusters but gave them to some one on the forum some time ago. I do not want to spend money on paintwork if i can help it. Will give it a good polish or/and buff. Not sure about the suspension but can also assume there is going to be some wear that will need attention/replacement. That i can do.

its a pity it doesn't have a sunroof but mmmmmm i like it and looks decent.....2.7 mmmmm...is the seller not going to give you any price? its tough because in SA these things can sell for anything....you might get someone willing to pay R50k for it but realistically you'd want to pay in the 20's but ja....very difficult...i dont know what your relationship is with the seller as that is tricky too. We dont want to do people in....ive told a friend before that with a little work they can get much more for their car but ill give them this amount right now. Most times they say naaa i dont want to do any work on it. I even offer to help them.

Having had for my first BMW a 1982 E12 528i, then a 1981 E12 535i, then a 2005 E28 535i auto and finally a 1988 E28 535i manual similar in colour to the one in the pics i am very tempted. Have always loved the E28 more as i like the square look. Also, the interior was more modern. Must say that all the E12's i had had the more modern interior, similar to the E28 interior.

OK, got some more info on the car. It has on 260k (not 385k as i thought - which is good news at least) when the odo stopped working and the owner reckons he put about 80k kms on it afterwards. Car had a water leak (i assume the head cracked) and a conrod got bent about two years ago. He had some one overhaul the engine. He says he got a quote (i also assume it is from BMW) for R15k to refurbish the front suspension and replace the discs and pads. He put in six new plugs last week as the car developed a miss during cruising. This helped but it is still jerking when cruising but accelerates fine. Also sent me some pics and the seat material is still fine although the driver's seat is sagging on the door side. (I was thinking of swopping the passenger and drivers seats). Dash is cracked but he has one of those carpet type dash covers on over the dash - I remember i also had to get one of those for one of my cars). Tires are still decent. Inside there is some door trim missing around the handles. He also says the ac works but not the fan. Now i did not ask if he meant the pusher fan or the interior fan. The car has also developed a petrol smell inside which happened since about two weeks ago. The bonnet catch release is also missing. I have pm'd m20boy earlier this morning as i see he might be interested in buying the car but am still waiting for him to contact me. I have an idea of what the owner wants for it.

Btw. Individj, congrats on the news of the new baby! I did not hear you that well when we spoke this morning but my wife tells me she heard you mentioning some thing about your wife telling you the news recently?
