1985 E28 M535i

Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of selling a 1985 E28 M535i and even though I have body number on VIN Decoder showing car 106 of 492 in South Africa and have stamped matching body on major body panel being engine compartment shock, there is another place that potential buyer was told to look at ( image attached ) that doesn't match up. To me this a a part number of sorts but would really like to authenticate this.

Im pretty sure that number on that black piece is just a part number. That piece looks like it is removable?

Yes it is but the challenge is that BMW forums ( mainly USA are stating that this is where one should look for additional VIN Number

engine fire wall just below right windscreen wiper in engine compartment

So although the part numbers don't match, it looks very much like what you're looking at is this. The 188 gives it away as a part number.
