Guys, we should alternate the type of charitable activities we do so taking a different stance, would everyone be game with tackling an activity from an environmental perspective?

Cleaning up of an area and planting of trees? Just an idea, won't take very long either. Possibly adopt a spot type thing?

Then can take a few pics, put it in the paper to get the word out about us.

Then on the next run, we can maybe do a feeding scheme type thing.

Thoughts?

Media coverage will not be a problem.

The adopt a site also sounds excellent.

Children's sleeping quarters need a revamp

23 June 2011 | Lauren Boyle

DURBAN Children’s Homes recently launched its new initiative entitled Adopt A Room at Durban Children’s Home.
"Durban Children’s Home was established in 1905 and the much-needed renovations to our old buildings are very costly. The children’s sleeping and living quarters are in desperate need of renovation and we are asking our public and corporate supporters to consider either signing on as a volunteer group or sponsoring the Adopt a Room programme," said Mandy Goble, director of Durban Children’s Homes.
Women from the 31 Club recently signed on to adopt all five bedrooms at Saunders House, where four-to-11-year-old boys and girls live.
The children were overjoyed when they returned from school to find that their bedrooms had been transformed into rooms fit for princes and princesses.
"31 Club’s generosity and attention to detail has made our children feel so special and loved, something that they will treasure forever," said Mandy.
Anne Collinge, chairwoman of the 31 Club, said they used the funds raised from a function to completely refurbish the rooms, including painting, treating, putting in new doors, and buying bedding and accessories.
There are now 31 bedrooms and other living spaces left for a revamp.
Contact 031 201 1301.
In addition to the Adopt a Room initiative Durban Children’s Home will be having a raffle for the month of June.
You could win a weekend away for two at the Docklands Hotel. Entries cost R10. Answer the following question: When was Durban Children’s Homes established?

Bruce's idea is really brilliant but time permitting for this run we should do something that can be effected within a span of 2 hours.
Adopt a room seems to be an entire day/2days of work.
However we should keep Bruce's idea in mind and definitely look at making it a dedicated project for us to do on the next run.

EDIT: In the meantime if us as fanatics can raise funds for this home? Should we not be involved in the actual labour. Thoughts?
This would have to be a seperate thing obviously and can maybe involve the entire forum?
