Hi....

A question about this, I was told the Non RFT tyre does not sit properly on the rim which is made for RFT tyres. going around bends etc it tends to loose air. is this true?

Personally I would stay with RFT, think its a safer tyre in terms of blow outs etc..

Definitely not true.

:coolShake:

actually the opposite is true, in some cases

RF rims usually have an extra captive moulding into which the beading fits, and holds the RFT beading in place once the tyre goes flat, to prevent the beading of the tyre jumping off the rim, and a NON-RFT tyre might not be held as securely on a rim designed for RFT tyres, but only in a deflated state.(puncture)

should something bad happen, doesn't the insurance penalise you for running normal tyres instead RFT.

insurance companies are not in the business of handing out money "willy-nilly", so dependant on which insurance company, will determine how much they will attempt to refute a claim...as much as possible

best to play open cards with the insurance company up front, long before any instance happens

I'm also looking for a new set of tyres for my 135. The cost of run flats is ... frightening. Read the owners manual (shock gasp horror) and was a bit concerned when the Tyre Pressure Monitor section in the manual directed me to the "Run Flat" section.

Does that mean that TPM doesn't work with non-runflats?

sorry if this is a dumb-a## question

Just an update, fitted the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 non RFTs (225/255).

What an amazing difference, love my car all over again :blowheart:

Turn in is slightly different, not as direct, something I can live with. The best part is how comfortable and compliant it is over uneven and rough surfaces. Haven't had a chance to test cornering and grip but I'm pretty sure it will be good.

Running 2.2 front and 2.4 bar pressure on the rears. Not sure if this is within spec?

Got them at a shade under 10k fitted and aligned.

Big difference to run flats?

Sent from my  iPhone

Yeah massive for me, was rock hard before and felt unsettled over uneven roads. Also alot quieter now.

One more thing are the Michelins less harsh then the current Bridgestone RE050?

I had both, michelin all the way. 12k is also a decent price

Yeah would have considered the Michelins but they around 13-14k now

This is due to a combination of running slightly wider tyres on the same width rim and the naturally less stiff sidewall of a non-RFT. This will give you some degree of a "floating" feeling compared to stock RFT's but you'll get used to it quickly. I know I did.

Pressure wise when I those tyres fitted to my E82 I experimented with a number of different combinations. Initially 2.2/2.4, then 2.4/2.6 and then ultimately settled for 2.4 all around.

Thanks, exactly as you describe slight 'floaty' feeling...

Will try 2.4 all round

oh my word, R10K for a set of tyres, I would be crying seriously
if I break open my piggy bank and pawn something here and there, I might scratch together around R5K towards tyres, cuppa soup for 3 months if I had to hoof out that amount
let me rather drive extremely slowly, my current set on the car will have to go for another few years yet, until the canvas starts to show
work and save work and save

Yeah man hard pill to swallow but will take some comfort in having a quality tyre fitted, often overlooked on performance vehicles...
