Hey guys!

My car runs like a dream! Boosting strong and awesome acceleration, but when ever I'm in a parking lot idling and looking for a parking my has a HEAVY blue smoke! Why is that? With the standard down pipe and back section it doesn't smoke at all, it's only when I have the full system on and idling around looking for parking.

Is the turbo going to pack up soon or what?

Any info will be appreciated.

Cheers

Dammm, gues I got to start saving too... What does a set of RB's set you back?

Funny thing is I had my car at BMW for its service in December and I got them to do a throughout check on the car because it was smoking. The car was there for a whole week and they said the turbo's were sweet, they couldn't find any faults???

Did you recently have a "full system" manufactured and installed ?

reason I ask, is that the new "full system" would normally take a day or few to burn off all the protective coating that is normally applied to tubing and silencer boxes, prior to it being used to manufacture the system.

Replace your pcv valve on your car before assuming its your turbos... Rb do a good option...

Pressure ratio before and after turbo normally 2/1 ratio.By opening up the exhaust this ratio differs and the pressure in the manifold drops.
The effect is that on an older turbo the oil from the oil seal is sucked out
at low rpm.
Cause two can be worn valve stem seals. What mieage have you done?
Cause three the oil return from turbo to sump has become clogged.

Hey guys.

came across the same issue after sending my 120 in for a service,

at first they thought it was the valve stems that were going...

but they put a full synthetic 10w60 race oil in there its a liqui molly oil from tunetech, and it whas stopped the problem ever since... maybe give that a try..

As far as i know on NA cars blue smoke means piston rings are going. Cant be sure though

Thanks for all the feedback, much appreciated!

My car is sitting on 99 000km. Who will be able to assist with the valve stem seals as my motorplan has just expired and this is my dream car and i dont want to get rid of my baby yet....

go look at the pcv valve.... its 90% your cause before you throw money into it...these cars have no known history of valve stem seals failing but are known to smoke when cats have been removed...

Hey bud, I've got the same problem. I've got catless dp's and last year I took out my secondary cats and replaced it with resonators. Since then the exhaust smokes every now and then. No power loss just the smoke. I did a search on E90post and it seems it's normal. The turbo seals with age starts to leak oil which gets into the exhaust and causes the smoke. Now with the cats in place this traps the oil vapour and therefore no smoke.
The way I see it we've got 3 options:
1) Put the secondary cats back in.
2) New turbos.
3) RB turbos.

Hope this helps bud.

& Btw def feel a few extra horses let loose after the secondary cats delete. So option 4) Live with the smoke and just carry on :flyfun:

just double check if it is that first though,

try the fully synthetic oil 10w60

also try the secondry cats as was mentioned below...

no need to open the motor in s rush, first try the small things

:argh: its annoying though hey???

Hey guys,

Latest update.......

I've replaced the fuel pump because my car kept on going into limp mode when I ran race map, I also replaced the spark plugs with Laser platinum iridium NGK plugs. After changing these 2 items my car no longer smokes as mentioned above. Could these 2 items have played a serious roll in my car smoking???)

Cheers

I got them from a friend that works for NGK, couldn't find the plugs anywhere like Midas, BMW ect.

I have seen damaged rings on N54 with 105 000km. While it was on plan turbo's were also changed but the smoking never stopped, also had full exhaust system.
