135i rotten luck

Might just be bad luck that the water pump went soon after delivery. I had the same bad luck after I took delivery of my car, within a week the water pump packed up and it was just bad timing. If they can fix it and give you some kind of guarantee then let them redeem themselve and keep the car.

Sounds like they didn't add any coolant after service :fencelook:

Light would have come on immediately.

Probably a hose has a leak and needs replacing.

A non BMW dealership, I agree with all the comments here above take a walk away ....... all the codes need to be presented after repair and you need to know what actually caused it!

Also agree with another comment from one of our members here in the thread you are protected under the CPA and they should refund your money INCLUDING on the road charges for up to 6 months after initial purchase!!

apparently it was the cap they sent me pics the o rings inside the cap are broken and a have on record there is no oil and water mix this is confirmed via the manager.

hey if the CPA covers me for 6 months i will roll the dice on this at least i have some sort of guarantee and i know what to do it it k@ks in 6 months.:fencelook:.

buying these things are so stressful this is the 9th one which i settled on.

Look if its just the cap that's fine but at the end of the day the car overheated for long enough for you to experience a loss of power....This is very bad!!

I am quite certain that the head got damaged. As stated above do a compression test. If the test is fine then happy days if not then you need to make a decision.

I would think BMW's warning would come on before any real damage gets a chance to happen?

My radiator sprung a leak within a week of taking delivery:hammerhead:

Not that I am aware of with these cars. Unless BMW implements a way to instantly cut the engine out. If the car was driving and that light turned red and then started loosing power then shit just got real.

Being that its an aluminum block the damage happens very quickly, like we are talking seconds!

I wouldn't take chances just get a compression test and have piece of mind, maybe your lucky but maybe your not, better to walk away if damage to the block has been incurred.

+1

When the actual engine goes into the immediate reduced power mode "the shittith has hittith the fan" between the first yellow light and the eventual red one being an alley block as said here the damage could be there already on the top, let them check it out and get a report from BMW before you take delivery "AGAIN" bud, thats your prerogative of acceptance!!!

The car lost power because it went into limp mode. The DME picked up something out of tolerance and reduced power to save the engine. If you stopped straight away, then everything would be fine, the fan stays on even when the car is switched off.

When my wifes 323i water pump failed it did so on the highway in summer. We literally drove the car in limp mode straight to BMW Alberante about 20kms. There was no damage to the engine at all. The car now has over 261 000kms on it without any side effects from driving with the failed pump. These engines are a lot stronger than people think.

If the water pump went then the thermostat stays in an open position to allow some water to flow. Your fan would then go crazy load at max speed to cool the engine down as well. If you stopped straight away, then everything would be fine, the fan stays on even when the car is switched off.

But if you really do want to keep the car and want to have piece of mind, I would say get everything and I mean everything in writing, absolutely no exceptions.

the thing is a lot of people won't even know the cylinder is out of round or there is compression loss.

This could happen and then your lucky. However if the op found the coolant reservoir empty and no coolant cause it escaped out the cap then your in big trouble. No amount of limp mode will save that block. Just idling with no coolant will destroy your engine in under a minute!

AHHH YES UPDATES

so the car was delivered on Friday, drove it around the block like bat out of hell. goes like stink on shit. we have a 7 gti aswell and this is something else.

wake up Saturday morning check coolant level everything is A OK . :tiptoe:

Sunday we decide to drive up to Elgin ( A place bout 60km out of CT I think ). we get to the turnoff to elgin while on N2 and then boom problem started again. stopped on the N2 with a little stream running under the car. i opened the bonnet and noticed a leak from the water bottle pipe.

waited for the car to cool down and then checked coolant level. its on Minimum :skit: Im super confused now. so topped it up with some water and drove normal all the way home ( no issue again ).

Called dealership this morning to cancel the deal. awaiting their response.

If they cant get it fixed with a simple water bottle cap which was apparently the issue, then i say cancel the deal

Sounds like my predictions were right. Engine block is damaged causing all sorts of heating problems so the pressures are probably greater than spec and causing pipes to break etc.

Well if the sales people had a problem finding the leak then imagine them knowing about the bleeding process of "you dont just add water to the radiator of a bmw" :fencelook:
