135i rotten luck

just took delivery of a 135i 2010 M sport,

while happily driving on the N2 from PE the cars water level light goes on, first its orange then Goes Angry Red then car just slowly looses power.

while trying to diagnose the problem ( back seat mechanic ) i noticed the following:

1. no coolent was present in the reservoir
2. the oil temp gauge hardly moved
3. this problem only started after 50km of driving.

i then called the dealership ( i will ommit names until my problem is fixed) i purchased the car from. they immediately came out and collected the car which is currently with them and they sorting it out.

My question is has anyone had a similar experience and if so what is the problem ?
also what should i be on the look out for when the vehicle is returned ?

sounds like water pump

day 2 dealership informed me that they have booked the car in for the repair but still haven't told me what was wrong. i did ask a buddy of mine that owns a dealership ( not the one i purchased the car from) if i can ask for a refund he told me the following options are realistically available :

1. because they have offered to fix the problem and not left me stranded i can ask for a refund but will forfeit certain costs such as admin and on the road fees.

2. i can leave the car with them to sell again and then refund my money

3. they can buy the car back at a market related price.

honestly i like the car and after asking a few mechanics and a bmw technician they all have said the same thing ... Water pump!! one suggested the thermostat but because of the absence of water i am leaning towards water pump !!
another suggested it could be a leak in the coolant lines hence the less of water and the cause of my dilemma.
oh and lastly, the head gasket went kaput which could also lead to the loss of water ( really hoping it isnt this one )

If the dealership has offered to fix the problem, most mechanics said, i could just let it them and keep the car.

Alu blocks don't like to be overheated, you may not experience problems right away but they will catch up with you later down the line. Personally, I would walk away from that one.

If its the head gasket, I would ask for a refund and walk away.

They will patch the problem and you will have other problems in the near future.

I'd go with everyone else's advice and walk away. However, if you choose to go forth with it (and it is the waterpump), perhaps you should ask to see the old part(s) that were replaced so you know exactly what was done and whether something was patched up. Chances are they're going to attend to the point of failure ONLY so your thermostat won't be replaced.

Get their workshop to read out all the codes (and perhaps pre-existing codes) in front of you on their OBD-II scanner so that you know where you stand with the vehicle.

On the plus side, if it really is the waterpump (and not the head, or anything else, as specified above) then you've saved yourself on having to do this for quite some time.

In my opinion I smell a rat in the dealership because if they did the necessary checks then the pump error codes would've been logged and stored. :hammerhead:

Good luck.

ok its a toyota dealership so i dont think they have the expertise needed to do the OBD scanner part. but i will speak to the manager and take in all the valuable information you guys have shared.

thanks all

This is not a BMW specific thing so they will be able to assist with this.

Dude if I'm honest. Seeing as you just took delivery. Ask for you money back and get another car

+1 - I would 100% walk away.

1. There are missing components - you don't know where/who serviced this car out of plan and these cars can be fragile if not treated properly.

2. I know of someone that bought a 2010 135i and the engine blew a few days later - 6 months later and he is stuck in a legal battle with the dealership and has no car to get around with.

3. You are protected under the CPA and they should refund your money INCLUDING on the road charges.

Just heard back from the Dealership

they say its the Water Cap that was faulty, this seems weird as i didn't notice any water coming out the cap when i opened the bonnet.
