My E90 335i waterpump gave up the ghost 2 weeks ago as well. I was on 105 000km. Just out of plan @the#$&. Same symptoms.
Luckily for my warranty, I only had to pay R2500 for the thermostat and labour.
It's an absolute must to do both waterpump and thermostat. Will save you a packet later down the line.
Next I'll probably have to do the oil temp sensor. It started playing up recently. I've read on some forums its good to change it at around 100 00km.
Costly though!
