I would only buy a Manual, I owned a 135i Coupe manual before and drove a dct also. DCT is faster but I feel it boring and not involving.

Since you're a 'real driver', the 135i is the obvious choice.

Haha I agree the 135i is the choice I would make with my heart.

The R is definitely the more practical car.

Guess I will leave it down to the test drive. Owned a 135i so I know what it feels like.

Now I just have to drive the R. Tried to previously but dealerships only had the dsg in stock for a test drive. Not sure how the clutch and gear shifts would feel in the golf. I am used to the feel of a bmw clutch. So easy to control and get used to.

Will update you guys as soon as I get to test drive a manual R.

If indeed you are getting a 7R for R420k then buy it! Drive it for a few months and decide whether its what you want, if not - still sell it for a premium.

If it is the more likely price of ~R520k then its a tough choice.

I agree with most of the guys - 135i coupe for me, the fun in the drive is worth much more than quick 60ft times.

135i boot is bigger than you think.

Golf 7R is somewhat overpriced imo.

Run flats are a selling point for me. I prefer them for everyday driving. Gives me peace of mind and proven themselves on more than one occasion to me.

They both sound good. I was a manual fan, but the DCT is much more fun than you think. I stick it in manual sports mode and its a blast. In traffic its a winner.

E82 still has great looks but very big downside on what you said, is the lack of xenons.

135i DCT and 7R are very evenly matched in terms of performance, with the 7R edging it on the launch. Launch control on the DCT is lots of fun.

Interior of the 135i is excellent and I would choose it over the 7R. Fancy does not equal better.

Build quality, well BMW wins this for me too.

Good luck with your choice.

M135i personally I dnt like the look of it, Prefer the 135i E82 shape
Plus R400k for a +3 year old Bm not worth it unless its an M3

M235i is overpriced. R550k without extras and depreciation will be terrible once the M2 is out.

Audi S3 I have 2 friends that have the new S3 and another 2 that the new Hatch A3 so dnt want to get that lol.

So thats why Im left with the 135i or 7R.

Rough Estimation
135i will Prob be worth like R200k in 3 years if I had to sell. So not too bad.

7R will sell for like R420k in 3 years and R380k in 4 years.

You ordered a manual 7R ?

Yes Ordered a Manual R.

@Magneto
I disagree with the interior. Owned a 135i and sat in a 7R

The 7R Interior felt like it was better quality.
And looked better in my opinion.

Think the 135i center console looks abit boring unless you have navigation.

With regards to the dct. I have driven a DCT before. Yes it would be nice in traffic compared to a manual. But I hardly drive in traffic ever

Going to play the devil's advocate here, I'd choose the golf.

This review of a manual M235i vs a manual G7R by Chris Harris should put things into perspective.

Sounds like you have already made your decision. This is all very subjective. I have a 135i DCT and had the 135i manual before that. My best buddy has a 7R. He will give you a different answer to me. When I change gears on my DCT, the thump I get in my back and the gurgle of the exhaust beats the hell out of the manual, but hey thats just me.

You cant really go wrong with either, but the 135i is much cheaper, so for me its a no brainer. On the open road, the 135i is stronger.

As I said, good luck with the decision.

Head = Golf (resale cheaper mods all that crap) cons: you will see 10 a day, everyday.
Heart= BMW :inlove: owning a car that will in 15 years be the 325is of its day.. no more 1 series coupes ever. extra pro, 2 door excuses why you don't have to give people lifts all the time

IC3...go with your heart :)

off topic....
the name of your cars :crazylaugh:

 I think I look forward to naming my cars almost as much as I look forward to getting them!

I love Chewbakka (VR6) I once parked next to a Ferrari California at a petrol station. had 10 attendants around me, the Ferrari complained that no one was serving him...

Golf 7 interior is HANDS DOWN, FAR better quality wise than any 1 series (old school)... The Golf 7R will be streets ahead... Can't compare.

I'm totally on the fence with this one. I used to HATE Golfs. I've always thought of them as little boys cars, or cars for people that don't want to grow up.

Got myself a Golf 5 GTI as a runaround and I'm completely converted. The comfort of this car is out of this world... I can ONLY IMAGINE what a Golf 7 R feels like.

Sorry, I'm not much help... :roflol:

Go for the 7R if you have the money
If it were a M235i or M135i then I'd say take the Bmw.

Aesthetics aside ... 7R is proving to be a really great everyday car. Practical to boot. The car is clinical ... So it will do everything perfect with little to no drama. No spinning no tail wagging ... Takes uneven roads with a level of grace where other "more accomplished" cars struggle. It's fast but not scary. It's almost too much of a good guy character ... Like the straight A student at school that does well in everything. And in that might lie the problem. But it's a cars imperfection sometimes that gives it character. The golf is great. But I reckon a m135i or m235i will be more fun. Going a little sideways now and again is always fun ... Don't think you'd get that right with the golf (unless you chris Harris). If you want an occasion get the Bmw ... You want a perfect composed fast car get the golf ...

The E82 is an aging car, old tech so for someone who already has a waiting order for the 7R I say go for it. Honestly the only x35 I would buy at present is the M235i or 335i mostly for the tech :coolShake:
