Hi Guys..

Is it just me or is it weird that bmw fitted 6 piston calipers on the 135i but in the same year or years the m3 v8 was fitted with 2 piston calipers?

I mean great for the 135i as i beleive they're Brembos and i love Brembo brakes as i drive a clio 3 rs with 4piston brembos... gives me great stopping power...

Any inside information with regards to these special brakes for this special car...

I always liked the 135i shape and the more i go into it the more i like what i read about it.. especially the n54 with twin turbos..

The number of calipers is only one aspect of braking performance. Size of pad, size of pistons, fluid, rotor type caliper type etc.

As to why BMW does this I don't know. We have great looking 6 piston Brembo front brakes on the F10 M5 and these weedy sliding calipers at the rear - even the Carbon Ceramics which cost a fortune don't look great at the rear. They do the job, but aesthetically they could do better. Brembo actually sells a rear caliper kit specifically for this LOL

I didn't know bmw used Brembo as i never saw any lettering except M/// or BMW ..

Interesting

If you look on the reverse of many calipers they are Brembo. Same goes for lots of other brands - at some point it was cool to have the Brembo logo on the caliper - now they put M logos or RS/AMG etc. Many guys overeas using brakes from crashed M5 and M6s as BBKs for their cars actually.

The 135i calipers aren't all that and a bag of potato chips. They tend to pop piston seals if you track the car and they surely don't keep cool enough. Don't get me wrong they do look awesome, and I have a set on my e46 330i. Are they better than the stock single piston calipers from the e46 330i? I am not so sure. Are they lighter? Yes, just a tad. Am I happy with them, yes, definitely. I have one gripe. The pads are very expensive, and soft.
