135 n55 custom zorst vs BMW performance zorst

Hey fellow fanatics
I am well aware there may be some topics similar to this thread around, but after searching I am still undecided. Also from guys who have a custom exhaust or the BMW performance zorst, your thoughts would be appreciated.

I would like an exhaust that cracks and pops like a mofo, is nice and raspy and around 30/35% louder than stock, but no drone. So when you hear the zorst but don't see it you think dam what is that and not dam whose straight pipe citi golf is that.:yuck:

It needs to be a cat back option. As I would like to keep cat in place. I would get it so its an easy bolt on and off set up, so going back to stock for service/ claim is easy. Has any one got advice on what set up will achieve this?

So, my thoughts are, on the n55 135i there is only a mid box and then the back box, what is your advice on the mid box? Will there be drone by removing it and putting in a straight pipe to the stock back box?

or

Keeping the mid box and removing the back box and getting a straight pipe/s from there will this be too loud/ cause drone

or

getting the BMW perf zorst only

or

getting the bmw perf zorst and staight mid pipes (ie no mid box)

or

complete custom cat back zorst....

any input will be appreciated.

This is what i would do.

Downpipe with a secondary cat delete,in place of the cats i would put long tube stainless steel resonators (Cowley or custom) with leaving the stock back boxes on.

:inlove: Sounds insane with this setup :praise:

I have a full 76mm downpipe with the BMW performance muffler, sounds very nice but definitely not irritating.

If you want better flow performance run a 76mm downpipe with full 76mm pipes to the back with a resonator at the center but the car will sound like its giving birth :nonono:

My brother has a Vishnu down pipe and BMW performance exhaust and it sounds fucking insane.

It back fires and pops at you when you snap it into second and third.

I wouldn't get anything else.

Thanks guys
My goal is to leave the cat in place, so downpipe off the cards for now.

It sounds as though, I can possibly look at doing the bmw performance exhaust and removing the mid box...
thoughts on this?
I know the mid box is generally there to prevent drone, I don't want any drone:yuck:

If yours is the N54, go for the bmw PE. The remove the midpipe muffler, they keep the mid cats in place and they fit a very nice sounding axle back set of pipes for you. It growl, snap, crack and pop for you. I was very happy with mine when i fitted it! I have since also fitted a set of DPs, and now shes so so much louder, but still sounds amazing!

So, upon some research and input in this thread, my best option at the moment is to go with the bmw performance exhaust and remove the mid pipe resonator box. I know on the N54 they add a Y pipe which removes/ replaces the resonator but they do have mid pipe cats to tone it down slightly. Some people have the view there will be some drone others say no...
Still researching this though.

I have emailed Alistair from Xcede to see what advice or option they they have.

Yeah, my concerns are obviously costs and having to remove non approved zorsts for mplan claims etc... but sounds interesting! Will ask him

I have the performance exhaust Abd it is pretty awesome, sounds great. And no need for removal etc etc..

For peace of mind and one less thing to worry about I would say the BMW product.

I would suggest you hear it and if it's not your cup of tea and can take one comes with the aftermarket stuff then go for that instead. (a lot cheaper I guess)

Thanks man, my concern is that on one hand I enjoy the sound of the stock exhaust, and I the BMW PE exhaust will be a step up from that, my concern is by how much. I have sort of decided upon the option I mentioned before, The n54 PE exhaust comes with the Y pipe, an actual BMW part, whilst the n55 goes with the back box only.

Now if I understand correctly, the back box is actually the same on both the n55 and 54 performance exhaust, thus it should fit regardless of which one you order, I will order the 54 version in which I get the Y pipe, I can then replace the mid box resonator with the Y pipe as they do on the n54.
