135 brakes

Greetings
I took a short drive from gauteng to durbs yesterday in my 135 dct. Done 14000km work and back general driving. No issues.
The traffic was fairly heavy with loads of trucks and plenty poolice so speeds where pretty much as posted.

Round halfway I started to smell brakes. That lovely smell normally reserved for track or bad behaviour.
I don't feel any fade or judder but I was surprised at the "cooking" smell.

Anything I need to know?
Should I have them checked?

I saw a thread on the 1addicts forum where they cook when used on the track butt this was not close. The wife drove for a section as well and she is careful.
I was even using manual mode with engine braking to reduce the brake loading.

I luuuuv my rocket and want to do only good things...

You sure it is the brakes then that you are smelling? Handbrake been adjusted recently? What is the condition of the discs?

Thank for coming back so quick,
Handrake never touched, seems loose if anything.
Discs look almost new. Did notice the outer edge of the disc seems to be polished now.

Hmmm, that is really strange

I see you are in pta, so I could come have a look for you.......but I will pretty much just come to drool over the awesome 135i brakes

And no-one here is allowed to inform roboman what a bad idea it is to let me close to 135i brakes unsupervised :mmm:

I was thinking of a quick trip to smg after my meetings this morning to let them have a quick quiz.
Are they any good. Anyone know who I should speak to?

Took a turn past SMG this afternoon and had them check it out.

They explained to me that 14k km's of normal town / work driving the pads don't really get proper heat in them as they are fairly large for the mass of the car they are stopping and under normal circumtances you don't break hard hard like on a track. The long road gets the warmed up properly. So its the first time heat up that smells.

Went for a test drive and all is well.

Cool
Service from SMG was awesome as always. Wish they where in PTA.

THANKS FOR THE INPUT ALL
