130i vs 325i/330i

Wsup everyone,

I'm planning getting another beemer in 2012/13 (when I've cleared the loan on the 530i). I'm wondering which would be a good 2nd hand buy (can't afford a new BM) by that time. I've zeroed in on a 130i (though I hear they're aren't made anymore) or a 325i/330i. How risky would it be to get one that's out of Motorplan? Or should one just be sensible and get an approved 120i/320i? I'd really like a straight six engine though...

Buying approved surely more expensive, it does not mean its going to be a better deal. I have been burned a few times...

i dont trust the 130i out of plan! they tried a patend on that engine and never used it again! WHY would i ask you!
The E90 325i is an awesome machine i had one for about a year then got the E90 320d touring.. would buy a 325i any day again!

Am I correctly inferring that the 130 and 330 don't share the same engine?? Anyway from what your saying 130's a disaster waiting to happen...unfortunately 135 is a galactic jump in price (and is only available as a coupe/cabrio right?).

Was hoping not to do E90, feels like too much of a default choice. But who knows, maybe 335 will be within reach then...or is that also a no-no off motorplan???

Yes the 130 and 330 has different engines! the 130 has some electronic valve story tried , tested , discontinued!
The x35i motors seems to be very reliable , just there are some over-heating issues that can be sorted and also fuel pump which is sorted on later models!

But any BMW serviced regularly with proper oil, not gunned when cold and turbo'ed cars idled after abuse will last you years and years! A BMW is as good as its looked after!

Thanks guys, I kind of figured 325/330 is the way to go. That 330d's go some sick shove in the back though! But I'm scared of diesels out of plan, I don't think they take abuse as well as the petrol engines.

Yeah I'd agree there, 325/330 definately the best option, 330d goes like a beast but reckon the petrols do handle a bit of abuse better.
