DIY golf tee mod

So during my break at work I was trolling the sites for more info on how to ,
Pretty straight forward and no mechanical skills needed

My girls 125i was just sitting there when I got home so ..... This happened

Simply pull out the pipe and clamp it off I used a cable tie incase we need to revert back ,

So abit of feedback on this I used the cable tie as it was easier also first time this was done the guy over seas used a golf tee hence the name jokes aside

I reverted back to plugging the pipe back in little over a day the fuel consumption doubled
Like I said I am not technically so I don't know why normal 9.5l and with the mod 17.8l same driving

Was reverted back back to 9.5l
Lesson learnt

Just my 2c on this.

This mod is only done for sound purposes. It keeps the flap closed when throttle position is less than 15% open (apparently) so this helps for noise when coasting along or cruising on the highway. It doesn't do anything performance wise,

Regarding your fuel consumption doubling, I suspect that's maybe a case of heavy right foot to listen to the noise lol.

Mine has been disconnected for about 6 years now, and I can get 7.5l/100kms on the highway, about 12l/100kms in town, and average about 10.5l/100kms.

From what I remember as well, if you unplug the actuator in the boot, it may register a fault on the ecu- which BMW may query if the car goes in for a service, that's why the golf tee/ cable tie mod is done in the first place.

Granted- if they look under the car and see a golf tee stuck in a vacuum hose they may also query that lol

But at least it's quick to revert to stock before the car goes in.

Pretty sure its sucking in unmetered air.
Can't see properly from the pic, but your cable tie might not seal off the pipe completely.

As Gavin said, it will do nothing to performance, and should do nothing to consumption.

Or maybe you accidentally pulled the pipe off the control unit in the boot while tugging on it from the bottom

I've done exactly what was showed in the pictures and I there's no difference at all

Is there something I'm missing out?

Should be audible at idle already.

maybe i must try it again....if the pipe is out of the exhaust, then its basically done? must the cable tie be tight? or plugged up with a golf tee to make a difference?

how would one know if the flats are open once? doesnt the air from the pipe push it open?

If you look through the tail piece you'll see the flap. It should open. I'll take a pic tomorrow for you.
