Hi guys,
does anyone know what could cause the car to burn the oil and smoke when the oil is topped up, once it looses 1 liter oil, it stops smoking...

Had a oil service done at BMW, they said might be the vacuum pump, or oil separator, but it don't make sense, why will it stop smoking when the oil drops. Besides that I changed the oil level sensor as well. Currently have Helix filled in. Any idea how the oil cud be leaking somewhere and then get burnt through the exhaust, i dnt know the oil flow of the engine.

Have double checked the oil, we drained it as well, its under the maximum mark. The probs with this car is there is no dip stick, have to check the oil on the on display on the dash.

If its the valve stem seals, the smoking will be permanent right? the issue i'm having is that it stops smoking once i get the warning light to fill oil, which means the oil level dropped, somehow i think the oil is being pushed through the intake. Does anyone know of good mech that i can speak to in Durbs, these guys at BMW wants to strip the engine and then investigate, the problem is the car is not on Motorplan.

Tell us a little more about the car, age, mileage, still under motorplan etc.

Electronic dipstick is a massive fail as far as I am concerned!

Could be the PCV valve. I would have a compression test performed to make sure the rings are fine. Worn valve stem seals usually cause the engine to smoke after idling for a few minutes or after sitting at a robot, when pulling off.

Also, not being able to physically check the oil level, only way to know is to drain the oil and measure how much comes out compared to what the electronic dipstick was showing... I also don't like the idea that you HAVE to wait for the level to drop by 1 ltr before topping up!
