We've finally spotted BMW's answer to the Mercedes CLA and Audi A3 sedan. The F52 1 Series Sedan is built upon the FWD platform which will also underpin the the next generation 1 Series hatchback and 2 Series Coupe/Convertible to follow after this sedan. It will also be offered with AWD xDrive.

BMW has previously gone on the record as saying that it "sees little need for a sedan smaller than the 3-Series," but it seems that the company has either reversed course, or were masking their plans from competitors until now.

Engine offerings will top out at 4 cylinders. The U.S. will get 120i and 125i (the latter with available xDrive) - source (ynguldyn).

This is kinda alarming to me, soon this trend might spread to other models, Doughnuts will be something you can only buy in a store...

"Sheer Driving Pleasure" will become "Sheer Under-steer"

* someone please wake me up now

They also held out against turbochargers for a long time but once they got the turbo love there was no limits.

Also, the manual gearbox is disappearing from the lineup.

They have also said they would never make a diesel car, never a turbo car and never an suv. Well guess what happened.

There is no reason to stick with the brand anymore. Next car will be a merc

I think the article is misleading, I think they meant Four Wheel Drive(FWD), look at the cars it's being compared to, they should have said 4WD. The reference to X-Drive is a giveaway that they are not referring to front wheel drive.
