03 m3 Battery light on

Hi Guys,

A friend of mine has a 03 m3, since yesterday his battery light is always on when the car is started. Any idea what this could be?

Thanks... I told him to do that. Am i right in saying that if it is the alty, the car wont start?

It starts and moves just the battery light stays on.

if its the alternator, it could be that the charge rate is too low or that there is simply no charge etc, car will still start, but the battery will not be charging properly so will eventually just die.

If its the battery that is maybe getting old and not taking charge properly, then its just a case of replacing the battery.

told my friend to check the alternator and guess what, he was on his way to bmw and the car died. towed it back to the office and he is now looking for quotes cos no mplan anymore.

so far he has R800 labour at bmw and R8000 for the part.

Can anyone refer us to anybody? The car is in Randburg at the moment.

Gone are the days that I could rip out the alternator on my old beetle, slot in a new pair of brushes and wham , bam, thank you mam, 30 minutes later all was good again.

How I miss the days.

find out at diesel electrics they are bosch agents if u don't come right pm then we can make plan:wave:

Yeah I heard that you can get a bosch alternator for under R1,000.
Then get the german workshop to install it, they in randburg or bryanston.
Less than R2k all and all.
