Car is an 03 with 165000Km.

Needed a suspension,brakes,vanos,clearances,bearings overhaul.

A few pics follow:

VAC bearings

New power steering hose is now even more expensive compliments of a weaker rand

The master at work! :praise:

Is that normal wear on those bearings, or from any kind of abuse? And with that said, this being a 2003 model, facelift or pre-facelift?

Pre facelift and the bearing wear seems to be consistent with distance covered.

As to whether it was abused by previous owners...I have no answer.

They actually pretty decent condition for that mileage, many other S54's have gone knock knock at alot lower mileage. I would imagine that this car was shown mechanical sympathy.

Just get it done Xack. It looks a lot more involved than it really is.

That is not the issue. It's when it does finally let go that 20K bill turned into a 40-100K bill.

Speaking of SW issues I took the car to Gert to update the OS to the latest version as well as the SMG SW update.
We equally did the accelerator SW update.

All in all the car is a lot happier with all the software updates in as much as it drives smoother although we still have a consumption issue we are trying to trace after the decat.

I'll chat to the customer and find out a little more about his daily commute as I suspect this has an affect on the fuel consumption as well.

Interestingly, there's quite a few cute 'features' in these cars that can be messed with, outside of playing with the maps.

In this car I played a little with the throttle response, as many people complain that 'comfort' mode is too lazy and that 'sport' mode is too aggressive. After some experimenting on a few cars running the latest software, I've settled on a comfort and sport response that works well. I've made the comfort made a little more nippy for everyday use, and made the sport mode a little less aggressive in order to make the car a little more manageable during spirited driving.

These changes are subtle and are mostly focused on the first 50% of throttle movement. People seem to like it so I consider this to be a neat change without costing an arm and leg for a full software remap. I've also added things like shift lights on manual cars and and sports memory for guys that prefer staying in that mode.

Lastly, I've done the O2 sensor delete after the cats on this car. Bear in mind the customer wanted to retain his stock map settings so these were left as is

Awesome Gert, I will have to pop by some time the shift light sounds cool.

Now all you need is a bearing fix through software :skit:
