2001 Brilliant Red 325i Touring.
I have converted another close friend to the BMW family today. He got hold of me last week wanting to get himself a BMW and at first was looking at the E46 318ti but I told him to cancel that idea and find a 6cyl instead for reliability purposes, I also told him the hatch is more of a boy racer's car so alot of them will have been poorly treated through their lives so finding a clean one would be hard, he wasn't too fond of the ti's front end either, anyway after he saw what I had done with my touring and the space and versatility it had he was hooked on the extra space and being a family man it made better sense to go that route. He also liked the idea that tourings are not driven by youngsters so finding well treated ones would be easier.
There were a few 325i tourings on autotrader and this red one at a 2nd hand car dealership in Meyerton immediately caught his eye so yesterday we went to view the car with diagnostics in hand and it looked clean and well looked after. I took it for a test drive and all seemed well bar the finished FCABs and a slight off-beat idle, diagnostics told me there was a vacuum leak and AUC sensor fault but that was it.
I then had Coisman give me a ENATIS report back which checked out fine and for good measure I went to Auto Glen this morning for a service history printout and nothing stood out of the ordinary, motorplan had expired in 2005 with only 68 000km on the clock. So after I was happy with the findings we went back to the dealership and Bradley traded in his 2009 Opel Vivaro panel van with 241 000km on the clock for the BMW. I asked him to bring the car round this evening so we could inspect the underside on the lift and all looks good underneath bar a sump gasket sweat and a broken pipe from the crank case vent valve to the dip stick tube (source of the vacuum leak), I simply replaced the broken pipe and the idle became perfect, bonus! Bradley is a very very happy chappie in his beautiful new ride, congratulations buddy, you deserve it!

It reads the air quality and closes the climate control vents apparently, as Ratslaaf said, its not worth worrying about given the cost to replace it. Its a small rectangle black box fitted to the top of the fan shroud.

Could just be the way the car is parked with the left front wheel on the curb. Will measure next time its on a level surface.

Hi Gizmo slightly off topic, but what does it take to make the mirrors move down when putting car into reverse? (e46) I think that's quite a handy feature

Its the first E46 I have seen that does this, I thought it was a E39 feature only. It also may have to do with the car having the auto rain sensor too.
I would also like to know what is involved in making it work on my e46, will do some research.
