Just thought I share this little bit of luck

Hey guys

Just sharing this for the sake of sharing.

I have been having some power and transmission issues. Felt like it was definitely related to the weight shifting on the chassis, which led me to believe the transmission mounts might be stuffed. It actually felt more like engine mounts to be honest, but seeing as Ive had these replaced about 4 months back I figured it was unlikely.

Got the car in the air today and turns out the transmission mounts are fine.
I therefor had a look at the engine mounts.
ALL the bolts were loose:hammerhead: The bottom one on the drivers could be turned with one finger. Scary stuff.

Tightened them up properly and the problem seems to solved.

Lucky break. Could have caused some major damage! (And I have had to recon the gearbox after a few gears decided to fuse and become one. Shortly thereafer I replaced an entire wheel house and had to repair the A frame. So Ive seen my fair share of major damage I think)

Have a good one!
Cheers

Aaah great timing bud! Well done!! Makes you wonder how much longer the car would of gone for before it became a serious problem.

Indeed! I'm sure I would have been left standing next to the road before the weekend. I left it for too long anyway, should have checked way earlier. Been a bit busy at work so I let it slide until today, when it really started sapping power. Very glad I checked it at last.

On a semi-related matter, can anyone confirm this for me please? Inside the dash, to the right of the climate control unit, glued to the inside dash wall: There is a pair of very thin wires, one red and one black. These have a white plastic connector that connects them on the other side to two yellow wires. One yellow wire has red markings, the other has black markings. My theory is that the wires carry a 12V signal that splits into 2x5V signals that lead to either the climate control unit, the accelarator pedal OR both?

Thanks guys

Im bumping my thread because I find these things very interesting.

My reason for asking about the wires above is because I don't want to take apart my dash to follow the wires just for confirmation.
The situation: The plastic connection between the red&black and yellow&yellow wires was very dodgy. I fixed this, and to my surprise, the pedal/engine cutout problem I have experienced for as long as I can remember (cutout as soon as kickdown switched was engaged - please refer to my many other threads on this), was now completely gone. Aircon compression was also much improved it seems.

My thinking is either:
1. The wires were feeding current to both the pedal and aircon and fixing the dodgy connection now provided proper signal to both or
2. They were feeding the pedal's potentiometers, which was then picked up as a short circuit by the DDE, which in turn limited all the things it usually limits in these situations - which includes aircon compression. The rest of the factors being limted is usually fuel injection, boost control and cruise control I believe.

Cruise control still isn't working (comes on in OBD but does not set speed), but I guess this could be a dirty wheel speed sensor or steering angle sensor gone bad. Any opinions on my theory?

Thanks guys
