Odd Occurence

So whilst many will think that I am smoking my socks or jocks :) I know what I know cos I know my car and have owned it for more than a year already.

Anyways - after decatting this weekend, I noticed that my interior lights flicker if I rev the car and this DEFINATELY didn't happen in the past. It still does the same if I keep the rev at say 2000RPM to let the lights settle out and then pump the throttle.

In normal circumstance, this would be power related but this isn't normal circumstances :nonono:

Does anyone have any input into why this happened? :dunno:

Oh, the headlights don't do this and I haven't asked someone to rev it up as yet so that I could look at the tail lights.

I will rev it up for you tomorrow at the ice cream meet...:joy:

Sounds very strange though, can't see how decat would do that, i picked up something with my angel eyes after changing them to white leds again that when i switch them on they flicker a few times then stay on... but anyway...

I'm sure someone that has way more brains than me will reply soon. :)

I'm sure you'll rev it up for me - That's R10 per strike :)

The flicker is normal based on experience. Mine does this too and I know someone with a 1 series that has the same. I think it has something to do with the LCM checking the bulbs for functionality. At least with LED you can still use the parking light properly when moving it to either left or right on the stalk. I found that this wasn't working correctly with the CFL on the E46. It would flicker permanently if you selected one side but it looked cool

interior lights on when driving? or you talking about the gauge cluster...

Naah - cluster is fine. Not when driving.

The ambient lighting including those under the door

Someone suggested that I check the earth straps around the sump/gearbox area. Does anyone know if there are any?

Switched the lights on while driving and it does it too. It's almost like the light goes dim as I hit the accelerator like there is a surge and then picks up again. This doesn't happen to the led's next to them and I am guessing it's because they require must less to throw light.

Yep, LED's are a bit more stable with power fluctuations - strange though, any electrical specialists here?!

You might be having a hot lose connection , check in the boot by the battery , what happened to me was my sound wire was overheating and burnt out the airbag controls , thus the light went on for airbags and the power kept rising and falling as the beat played :flyfun: Was not connected properly in other words .

Thanks. Will check it out

Sorry guys....

Distracted today :)

Well, if its limited to the lights, then the LCM is the likely culprit.

The LCM also controlls something called a junction box located in the vehicle.

The LCM is light current with the Junction Box taking the heavy stuff.

Now if this is the ONLY power issue on the vehicle, and you have nothing on the radio, amp, onboard kitten holder, I doubt that it is power related.

A quick was to pick this up would be to do a diagnostics, and if you are experiancing issues with low voltage, many modules will pick this up.

Now back to the problem, that if it is the LCM, it could be that you have a peanut in the packet.....

Meaning that, somebody welded on the vehicle without disconnecting the battery, and even the slightest voltage in the wrong place can damage a module.

It seems odd though, as the lights inside the vehicle is seperated from the main headlights on differant relays(think they may even be solid state), but its differant...

I think its the LCM....

Or a pidgeon... not quite sure...

Thanks for the reply bud. F..K, they did weld on the exhaust without disconnecting the battery. If it is the LCM, I know this to be very costly? Would I have to get the diagnostics done to check this as no other lighting is affected?

Is it possible for a LCM to degrade further to a point where it fails?
