I have noticed the whistling and whining noise, also on 22", but the whistling is coming from the side view mirrors above 120. apparently as air flows against it, at higher speeds, it is forced between where the mirror caps mate with the mirror housing, on my car this is where the Cerium grey meets the black part creating the housing.
BMW advised to install felt tape along the bottom side of the mirrors to prevent the air from scooping inside there and making a noise, but that sounded completely moronic to me, so I havent done it.
I am largely deaf to it now, but a drive up from the bergs in the snow this weekend proved that the whistle is alive and well.
As for changing the tyres, wheel combos, there are whole threads on this topic and the G05 drivetrain and transfer case is very very picky about what rolling circumference is used. Each of these cars built, had the transfer case calibrated on build with a specific tyre size, wheel diameter (and resultant weight).
Bimmerpost forums seem to indicate square setups usually work fine, but some post to say it causes jerking.
While others have gone down in size with no ill effect as well.
I changed from 21s to the stock (for my build) 22s. The previous owner sold off the more expensive 22s and fitted the "looks like crap" 21s that the car came with. I wanted to keep in original, so swopped them and paid the cash difference. Car is fine with no jerking.
But the post above about not taking the car ANYWHERE for balancing and alignment is completely true.
Whats also true is that the wheels are now all soft and pickle if you go over a rock the size of a vicks tub (meanwhile apparent the car is an SUV
