Owning an E70 X5///M ( AkA Kopseer )

Just been looking up some info on those turbos from the E70, and your turbos definitely don't have them, so I am guessing (contrary to ETK) that the o-rings were new for the S63Tu and not present in yours. But I am getting contradictory information on this. They should sit just inside the bigger intake where the air tubes attach to the turbo. I'll keep digging. Have you got a part number on those turbos you can share with me?

I suspect yours is the original S63 engine, whereas the F10 and the F12/F13 used the S63Tu. The original S63 is based very much more on the N63 of the time. So that could explain the differences. A quick check on ETK though and yours does use the o-rings, item 17 in the image. The part number is 11427578079 (I think). But the most likely outcome is that it's your valve stem seals. It is a known issue on the earlier N63 and S63 engines. Apparently there was a law suit in the US around this issue on both engines.

Thanks Bugger, when asked at agents they supplied me with these.

That was my first though, but looking at the marks it doesn't seem to consistent with running lean. also the exh wheel would normally be light grey/white. you ever look at the wideband sensors? no other signs of running lean?
Also thought maybe ran lean. Wideband sensors ? Still learning

Ok I think I am making a bit of progress here. Check this photo below. It seems there is an o-ring that sits just above the main core. This design was changed to the one in the Tu that the M5 had. I don't see anywhere on ETK about that boot thingy they have given you. Because in my mind that would be VERY restrictive on airflow and boost on those turbos, surely.

The part numbers on your turbos should be 11657848320 and 11657848116 (they're left and right turbos, N63 used identical turbos). The two numbers I've given you, they correspond (the one ending 320 anyways) with the turbo in one of the images you shared just now. So now it makes me wonder if the one ending in 319 is the original part number superseded by 320.

There is a couple of partnumbers on realoem, the N63 turbo's is diffrent from S63. The S63 uses dual core turbos with slightly larger compressors, N63 are identical left and right where S63 inlet housings is diffrent.

Had a look on snails itself for partnumbers the 319/320 is for left and right

Thanks Bugger, when asked at agents they supplied me with these.
This is very similar to the N54 turbos inlets, they also have this style grommet that the inlet tubes fit in to, negating the need for a clamp.
On N54 these also deteriorate and in some extreme cases, so much so that they get sucked into the blades.
So a fresh set of grommets here will make the world of difference for you bud.
