BMW E82 120d Professional radio no working (Doesnt turn on)

Hi There.

Long story short. The Head unit oneday gave a Hi temp warning and we couldnt do anything just silence.
When we got home I dsconnected the battery in hopes it would restart the radio instead it did the opposite and the radio doesnt work. Doesnt turn on Nothing.
Its about a year and half later and still the radio doesnt work. Recently with a bit of bucks we went to Beeline to try a second hand unit and we tried about 3-4 units with the same where it just doesnt turn on.

I facebook market place one and the owner upgraded his radio and swore his was working I put it in and still nothing.
Please someone give me advise or what technical stuff to check. I was hoping to use ISTA D or INPA to see if it is a module or to test someway or somehow maybe someone here has expereince or can point me in the right direction.

It is at a point now where I am going to buy a android unit and have a company fit it but then we lose the AMP and factory sound etc. As the AMP works with the optics.
ID like to have a final crack at it and was thinkking to test the 12v at the Headunit or put an alternative source of 12v I know on the pins there is continious 12 volts and then also ignition 12v pin 15/16 something like that.
Maybe it is the amp located in the boot? Which I will also strip the boot liner out and have a look. If it is getting power optic etc. But maybe someone can assist or point me to someone who can assist So annoying..

Things that dont work along with the radio are:
1.PDC dont beep no more.
2. No warning Chime for example when seatbelts are off.
3.No Alarm sounds or beeping or siren.

The strange things is when I turn on the headlights the radio backlight comes on?

Please help me. My poor partner drives 50km/day in silence.

OH AND YES I CHECKED ALL FUSES AND EVEN REPLACED THEM INCLUDING THE ONE BEHIND HU.

With all the radio's you have tried, it sound more that your problem is from the car itself and not the radio ( amount of radios tested ).
Never had an issue similar to yours, hope you get sorted soon.

Some info on fuse box for the 1 series, might help.

Hi @Gordvisr.

Thank you man, what a pain.

Strange enough yesterday while driving I pressed the eject button and a CD came out. I then tried putting it back and the radio took it.
So its almost like the screen and sound are affected. I suspect the radio might be in some safe mode.I am waiting to see if I can potentialy reset it on INPA or potentially play around with the CCC I saw on INPA you can reset or flash the radio. If I can communicate with the module this might be a win. I ll keep everyone update to see if this might just work and solve the issue.

Justin.

Things that dont work along with the radio are:
1.PDC dont beep no more.
2. No warning Chime for example when seatbelts are off.
3.No Alarm sounds or beeping or siren.
All of the audible warnings (PDC beeps, seat‑belt chime, alarm siren) are driven through the head‑unit’s internal amplifier. When the BMW “HI TEMP” sensor trips, the radio shuts down its power supply and amplifier to protect itself so that's normal.

Did you check all the basics?

Battery and ignition power - With your multimeter, check for constant 12 V on Pin 16/terminal 30 and switched 12 V on Pin 15/terminal 15 of the HU harness when the key is in ACC/ON.
Ground - Verify a good chassis ground from the HU case to the car’s earth point.
Remote‑turn‑on line - Pin 8 (green/black) should see +12 V when the HU tries to wake the amplifier.

If any of those are missing or intermittent, trace wiring back to fuse 11 (10 A, glove box) and fuse 69 on the radio harness.

After that check the MOST‑bus amp & TCU cooling:

The head‑unit talks to the amplifier in the boot and the TCU under the rear footwell over the fibre‑optic MOST bus. When those modules overheat, they send a “protect” command to the HU and kill all output.

Steps to check them:

1. Pop the rear boot liner and locate the amp.
2. Have someone switch the ignition ON and watch (or feel) if the little cooling fan in the amp spins.
3. Under the footwell, check the TCU fan too.

If the fans aren’t running, or the modules are clogged with dust, they’ll overheat instantly and shut the HU down again.

Software and safe-mode reset:

If you have ISTA/D or INPA, connect and clear any faults on the CCC/RAD module.
If not, pull the negative terminal off the battery for at least 30 minutes, you can sometimes clear the safe‑mode latch.

@Teezoh

Thank you so very much for the information. I truly appreciate it. I am going to have a look at this..
Would you be available for some further question or related via Whatsapp or the forum?
I checked all fuses in Glove box and replaced them. When you refer to radio harness is that the fuses behind the radio?

The strange thing is the radio even ejects a CD LOL so I suspect some safety or safe mode which I am buying a K-DCAN cable to see If I can reset the CCC.

Also the TCU is that what is under the passenger Footwell I can the Optic and aerial if I am not mistaken.

Regards.
