G05 X5 SANI PASS CONSIDERATION

Hi All
I know there has been some discussions around SP and what can and cant go up Sani Pass but here goes. I have a g05 X5 sitting on 22 inch rims with low profile's (yeah i know not really a off roader spec) with a spare tyre (only 1 :) ). Been checking you tube for most recent videos of trips up the pass and it looks quite risky with low profile and only 1 spare. Any views and or advise or perhaps insights from someone that has done this trip recently ?

Would be a epic photoshoot but not worth the risk if the road conditions are not satisfactory for a 4x4 with not so 4x4 tyres and rims

You should definitely make it up there with no issues at all.

We used our X3M Comp there many times and it did the job absolutely perfectly fine.

Don't think you have anything to worry about with the G05. A lot of people underestimate the offroad capabilities of the BMW SUVs.

The roads getting there are worse than the roads on Sani Pass itself. Pack the tyre inflator, check road/ice conditions before you leave and while you are going up the pass. Definitely make sure your tyres have enough tread :)

There are guys who have modified the G05 to fit a full tyre on the towbar with an attachment as well as using thicker non runflat tyres and packing inflatable jack bags. This costs quite a bit I am told. Just go slow.....
The drive is enjoyable so slow is the way.

Will be awesome bud.

I'm planning to do it with my F25 X3 soon but got more meat on my tyres being 17inch. Also fitted some Falken Wildpeak all terrains recently.

I'm actually keen to do this with our F15 as well. I just assumed with the 20's it will cope fine.

I mean my father-in-law did it with his ix-35 and didn't break a sweat lol

The thing i have found with the lower cars in snow, is that they tend to accumulate ice/packed mud on the inside of the wheel well and under the jack points, there have been cases of water ingress where the ice is forced through/packed in over the wheel archesand behind, then melts and gets into the side frame rail. It then sloshes around in there and you can hear it when you brake and accelerate in quick succession.

Only way to get it out is to strip the interior apparently.

If there will likely be ice and snow on the road which is thick and you drive through it, be mindful of this.

So met a guy today that used his X3M with 21inch wheels up Sani Pass this past weekend with no issues.

However on another dirt road the next day, he hit a sharp rock that cut the sidewall on a front tyre. R8k for the tyre and R2k call out for BestDrive to sort out 🙈

That’s my fear but on the flip side I have a biscuit spare but still won’t help navigate the pass if I have a flat half way in the pass
