M Car owners, question for you

I have a 2021 f90 m5, gets used 3-4 times a week mostly just to go to gym in the evenings, occasional trip from Swaziland to Midrand. Do about 10,000km a year in it.

My daily is a 2008 defender 130. Also have a few bikes so split my mileage between them.

Don’t daily it as too low and not practical for my line of work. Pitching up to see a client in an m car also isn’t best of ideas where I am.

Curious as to the industry?

Never had a M car but always of the opinion that a car is purchased to be driven and not as an ornament to lay in the garage appreciating value for the next person or for the future.

It's like having a wife/gf that you don't sleep with because of the risk of damaging her 🤣

Life is short. Enjoy it!

This has been an interesting read with varying opinions and uses of these cars.
I've only recently explored M cars, and immediately when I experienced it, it had an exception feel. One you dont get from any other BMW and some competitors. While you can daily it as with any car it feels like it will dilute that experience.
And then yes as others mentioned, you faced with various risks to the condition of it if you are going to be dailying the car and various other factors.
Then this begs the question, is it worth it having a car like this if you not going to be dallying and only use a couple of days a month. Or should you make proper use of it and deal what comes of it?
I can say I'm in agreement with both camps.
And this split in opinion shows on these cars that's for sale, some have low mileage for the year while others have high.
Hence I was not sure where these cars actually fit in and wanted to figure out what everyone else is doing that has been in ownership of them. Its not a supercar but it's also not a normal car.

Some wont maybe see it as an ///M car but owner of an X5///M. Running as a daily ( scool runner/moms taxi the works ) over 200k on ODO still running strong. Service and maintance is key . Some parts , Agents only which can get somewhat expensive/ Some are available at GW. Having some D.I.Y skills help saving some moola on labour. ( see my thread here https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/threads/owning-an-e70-x5-m.99155/ )

We must not discourage these guys, since they will keep their cars pristine for us when we buy them a few years from now 😉

Says the dude who is moving up the chain in the Porker community, will you ever come back for an ///M car though? It must have to be on a different level for that to happen OR circumstances will call for it.

Maybe a used M Lite (or full fat) X model when the time is ready and the price is right, as the 2nd car.

I daily a G80 M3 but I'm a terrible example as the car is only on 305 km lol. Daily commute is 8km return including the school run, it's barely any mileage and car only reaches temp as I drive into the building. I also do a lot of international travel for business and don't go in to my office everyday so an M was fine for my use case. Due to recent family circumstances down in Durbs, I have barely driven it since taking delivery at the beginning of June owing to all the travel but so far it's great, I just find myself appreciating the X5 more for running errands and seeing clients (They must never see that you drive nice cars).

My X3 M40i was hands down the best daily I have ever had, which the M3 replaced, and I miss it dearly. I just won't admit it to the wife as she didn't want me to get the M in the first place since the X3 ticked all the boxes.

That depends if you intend on keeping the car until the very end ? Then sure it may be worth while making it a garage queen, if its a something you are planning on trading in the years to come then I would surely drive it more often rather than letting time go buy just to say goodbye at some point.

To the M car owners (not M-lites sorry)
Just curious to know if your M car is your daily car? If it's not your daily car, why isnt and when do you drive it? And what is your daily car?
Just trying to get a general feel as to how these cars get used and where do they fit in.

My E93 M3 was my daily when my office was 20km return from home. Then I was based in an office 200km return away. I still used the M3 for a month and was left broke cos V8!
Now, i use my Golf 5 GTI as a daily, 3 days a week it does 40km a day return. Once a week i go to the Dubai office - 200km return. I work from home on Fridays.

I do drive the M3 on a weekend, once or twice a month or if the Golf is gone for mods/repairs/maintenance. The main reason for this is cos I am very protective over it. If i know im going to a mall where it would be parked among other cars, risking a dent or scratch is too much for me. Pedantic as its in near perfect condition!

I've daily driven the M's and they are enjoyable up to a point. When you are forced to drive it daily it can be frustrating especially with the fuel consumption and the harsh ride. When I had the e46 I'd enjoy it for a few days and towards the end of the week the sound would start irritating me but the v8 and I can drive it 2 weeks straight and still enjoy it. The e46 was SMG so it was a bit jerky in traffic but that never bothered me just the harsh ride was the problem. The v8 sounds great and slightly more comfortable, i can drive it for a whole month and park it for another 2months. It is just better when you have the ///M as an option. After 6 years of ownership the v8 has been quite reliable and fun to drive, every cent I spent on it has been worth it. The e46 was only fun to drive at high speeds yet the v8 at 2500rpm it sounds amazing with that linear power delivery.

I have 6 M Cars currently

Not one is used daily, I rotate them and will bring one home for a month or so and use it maybe on the weekend or so, just depends where I’m going or what I’m doing

1 of them is a race car, I probably do the most mileage in it out of all of them 😜😂

Daily a GR Hilux, I suppose the M Version of Hiluxes 😜
And the wife Daily’s a Cruiser 200 VXR
