discussion Non-AGM battery in an F30

Howzit guys,

Can I use a non-AGM battery on my 320d.

FYI, it is a manual; in my 18 months of ownership of the car the conditions for Stop/-Start have never been met. From what I can gather, the car will switch off at minor stops only on rare occasions, so rare that I have yet to encounter it.

I guess I’m asking whether the Agm is there only for this function, because if so then I can get a cheaper battery.

Thanks

the AGM Battery is much stronger than a standard battery, although start stop is one of the main reasons these cars are fitted with AGM batteries, there are a lot of other electronics in the car which would benefits from AGMs
Its for this very reason I opted for a AGM when I replaced my car battery 2 moths ago. I plan to keep it so might as well do what I can to protect the electronics.

From my experience (or rather observations), the battery itself is also a condition for stop-start to work. I.e. stop-start not working is one of the signs that the battery is no longer on top shape and when the battery is on its way out, stop start also stops working.

Rather get a AGM battery. It should restore full functionality. It doesn’t take much to trigger stop-stop.
