So i went through this exercise yesterday.
1st port of call, i called BMW Financial Services directly and enquired about a Maintenance Plan, the cost for the M6 is R87 000, and is for 3yrs/100 000km.
This covers the following for claiming during the 3 years:
Oil Changes x 3
Spark Plugs x 1
Pollen Filters x 3 (Done with every oil change)
Windscreen Wipers x 2 i believe
Front and Rear discs x 1
Front and Rear pads x 2
If i work that out, according to the My Vehicle Dashboard, the above comes out to a grand total of R105 000 spent over 3years if down without the maintenance plan. so a saving of around R20 000 if buying the plan, maybe slightly more if discounted as they usually do.
I called Innovation, actually they called me back after trying to get someone to call me after 5 attempts. and as above, Sherwin Pillay was the consultant, very arrogant. but anyways, after getting the details of the M6, he said due to the age of the car, the best plan they can provide is a monthly premium of R495pm.
This allows me coverage of:
Engine - up to R20 000
Gearbox - up to R15 000
Cooling system - up to R12 000
and on and on and on, you get the drift.
I stopped him after he spoke about cooling system, and told him flat out that this is for a BMW M6, not a Hyundai Atos, and that a set of Spark Plugs and Coils alone amount to more than the R20 000 limit. and i let him know that there is no way thats worth while. I did ask the terms of the claims, and again, it is subject to catastrophic failure.
So as with any aftermarket warranty out there, they all sh!t, unless you have a good connection at a workshop that can wangle the system for you, or, your car is well within the age requirements to get a semi decent plan, there is no way that it will cover the costs needed for repair. that R20 000 wouldn't even cover the engine of a Hyundai Atos either. All it is, is a false sense of security, and not a single person can sway me otherwise.
