ANYTHING and EVERYTHING can and will get stolen eventually in South Africa!![]()
Any update on this case?
What a legend! Dude you really are so helpful to the forum membersThis is not something I would simply let go tbh, it's not just petty theft or plate cloning, it's been fraudulently registered.
Info seems to be a tad vague but how exactly are the guys not winning?
Are you just reaching out to the guys who do custom plates at a cost to save you some time?
I spoke to a mate of mine in legal regarding this matter and he gave me the following steps that should be followed, passing it on so you can use it if you'd like: (some of it is common sense ofc)
1. Report the Theft to the Police:
Immediately report the theft of your number plate at your nearest police station.
Obtain an affidavit and a case number to prove that you have reported the theft.
Make it clear that this is not just a stolen plate but also a case of fraud and identity theft, as someone has unlawfully registered your plate.
2. Notify the Licensing Department:
Visit your local licensing office (DMV) and inform them of the situation.
Present your police affidavit and case number.
They may guide you on the next steps to reclaim your plate or potentially issue you a new one.
3. Contact eNaTIS (Electronic National Traffic Information System):
Report the stolen plate and the fraudulent registration to eNaTIS.
Provide them with your proof of ownership and police case number.
Request an investigation into how the registration was transferred without your consent.
4. Seek Legal Assistance:
Consult with a lawyer who specializes in vehicle registration or motor law.
They can help you with the legal process to reclaim your plate and hold the culprits accountable.
5. Check for Fines or Legal Issues:
Check if the fraudulent use of your plate has resulted in any traffic fines or legal issues in your name.
Dispute these fines with your police case number and evidence of the plate theft.
6. Notify Your Insurance Company:
Inform your insurer of the stolen plate and any potential fraudulent activities related to your vehicle.

Best of luck with everything man, keep us updated. Thanks very much for going through all that trouble.
Our cars are mostly gp registered but we resides mostly in Swaziland. Hence getting third parties to assist. Excuse the vagueness, we basically just get radio silence from first guy, second guy disk it’s been sick for last couple weeks so said he didn’t have time.
We in Midrand over the weekend though so going to convince.
I agree with you though. It’s also really upset my wife. As I offered to get her another plate and she refused due to this ordeal.
