So this morning I received an alert on my phone and and basically it indicates that a service is due when I checked in detail I noticed that it's talking about a starter battery replacement.

So my question is those of you that have? X3G01
did you change the battery at the dealership or do you buy it from places like like a Midas?

Hi

Get the same spec VARTA battery - make sure it is an AGM.

Have it registered to the car as a new battery.

Just my 2c

Best aftermarket is VARTA - if you go bigger then fine but if you go smaller then personally I don't feel comfy. I read up on a few forums and the guys advised to always put the same AH or higher.
I would shop around with a few more places or BMW branches and see if they having specials also.

Just had this done at BMW last week under motorplan, 3rd time the message popped up since last year. I would also suggest the Varta same 92ah, as the dealer fitted a BMW branded first national battery.

Bro - Durban's best bet would be Midas...I also checked online and it shows as they stock it too but Midas Midrand. Try your Midas and ask specifically for it?

Google shows me First Battery Centre -Bluff has it and also try batteriesonline.co.za.

Sorry, not too familiar with Durbs dude.

Varta is the way to go, 2nd choice would be Willard.

In my experience, the Varta has about 10-15% more Ah and CCA, compared to other equivalent size batteries.

2 year warranty as well (same for Willard).

Ultimately you get what you pay for with Batteries.

If I remember correctly, there’s a place in Durban North which is a Varta agent. Allied Auto Electrical

+1 for VARTA comments and slightly higher AH would not hurt

If you willing to take a drive...Battery world in Pietermaritzburg stock Varta and Willard.

Always received great service and pricing from them plus the take away next door sells awesome samoosas and dagwood sandwiches.

Out of curiosity, if one purchases the battery from Battery Centre, can a BMW dealer perform the registration or coding?
Can Battery Centre perform that, or is it locked to dealers only, or those with the required software?

My X5 G05 battery is 6 years old now and is due for a change, the original battery is a 90AH/12V/900CCA which was manufactured in the US by Varta for BMW

The only company I found locally which makes the same AH and CCA is Raylite which is manufactured by First national battery, all the first battery centres stock it, I decided to get the 658 Varta Silver AGM instead but haven't gotten a chance to fit it in yet as I need to have it coded and registered

I seen Guys that used Carly to register it but it doesn't get properly coded without using ISTA

Anybody with experience in coding and registering batteries? The varta I bought is rated 5ah higher and 50CCA lower.
