F82 M4 - Buying advice

But that will mean I will have to look for newer cars still with MP and those will be more expensive. What are BMW terms? Can't I buy a third party MP when the one from BMW expires?
aftermarket plan on an M4 is worth nothing, save the dosh to run it properly rather.

Hello everyone again

What are your thoughts on this car? I am ready to pull the trigger.

1. Get a good look under those steering and seat covers. I would love to know why they are there and I don't buy the meticulous owner story 👀

2. Confirm with BMW that the plan is active, when last it was there and confirm with the selling dealer that they will arrange to replace the discs under that plan. If they can do discs, pads and fluid under plan still then that is one of the big costs dealt with. BMW should have already replaced the discs looking the way they do in the pics so also check that there wasn't a rejected claim or too many disc claims in a short space of time.

3. At 40000km (and no reason to doubt this if it is indeed still on plan and everything checks out) you shouldn't have too much to worry about and can look towards doing preventative work.

4. Aftermarket warranties I am not really a fan of. They cover very little on an M repair and may not repair the car in a way that you approve of. I would save the cash and start building the buffer for future repairs and maintenance.

5. It would be nice to have more plan available in terms of time for you to discover things. That said, when transferring the plan they do have to carry out an inspection, run diagnostics etc and they'd have to fix anything major before transferring to you. I am leaning towards @NBN 's view on this. If it was not your first rodeo with this kind of thing then it would be easier to tell you to go for it in good conscience. Ultimately it is up to you. The difference is quite big to get a car comfortably in plan but it will offer you the peace of mind (of at least 6-12 months so you get a feel for things).

6. @Yulz9081 I don't see the extended leather on this one? You'd see stitching on the binnacle.

If my eyes are not deceiving me, it looks like stitching running behind the screen and just behind the binnacle. Also looks like some stitching on the centre console next to the cupholders.

Pic quality is crap also.

You are correct, it is stitching on the dash and the bottom console.
My take is this car owner had pets hence the rear cover most pet owners put. The steering cover is a first but that could either cover up a VERY worn steering OR reveal an absolutely good steering needing a good clean anyway from dirt trapped inside the cover.

It's interesting cos you're both right that it does look like it is better than the normal dash but it isn't the extended leather or full leather. This is the bit I was looking at - seems there are two steps from base to the extended leather and then "full leather", but both of them should have this (with full leather covering the bottom of the dash as well and this grade of leather as well).

The stitching is also in a different spot to the actual leather dash

The stitching in the ad looks like the finish on my F90 which I've been treating as vinyl (albeit soft vinyl). Seems the default was to be bare plastic, this as a step up and then two grades of leather? Not sure if it was a comp or LCI specific thing?

This is what the F90 extended leather looks like (from google):

I see some red flags in terms of the diff being replaced, front axle, gearbox mounts , cylinder head gasket , condition of the current brakes, .....makes me believe that this car had a bit of a hard life for its mileage.... Also cant understand the owner logic, he complains about an unpleasant exhaust noise but drives around with discs with visible scoring although there was a claim for pads at 43350km ? The math on this car isnt mathing for me

Agree here. It's definitely had a hard life for the mileage

I guess this closes the assessment. Thank you everyione for taking the time to add these invaluable inputs. The search continues, and I will be back with another. Feel free to share good examples if you see any.
F82, Comp package, preferrably white or yellow.

Hey OP,

I was in your shoes this time last year.
Great help from the community.

In August I picked up a late 2019 comp in M.White with M/P till 2026. I found it at a BMW dealership, therefore the price was steeper then a regular dealership.

I drive the car almost daily, I go to the office twice a week, Constantia kloof to Sandton, but I'm flexible and only leave after traffic. The dct box hates stop and go, but it's very capable.
The comp with the m suspension in comfort feel great.

This is one of the best cars I have owned.

Fyi- boot space is huge!

Just be patient, the right car will come along.
Know what u looking for, like at least u know the colours u want/prefer
Comp pack or not
LCI or pre LCI
Etc

I’ve got a few M cars in my little stable and I just looked until I found what I wanted, sometimes it’s not exact but pretty damn close.

For example my E92 M3, I wanted a Comp Pack, DCT preferably in white. But I landed up with a Space Grey Comp Pack with a Sunroof not Carbon roof. Which turned out to be a rare spec as like 90% have Carbon roof. One thing I wish I could have had different was a manual box.
But mileage was good, price was right. Car is immaculate. Love the car.

Then when I was looking for a F82 M4, I specifically wanted a M4cs in San Marino Blue only. Now remember only 60 CS’s came to SA of which 30 where San Marino Blue, all sold in 2019, some into 2020.
My luck was they were all about to turn 5 years old at the time I was looking, which means everyone wants to sell because the car will explode all of a sudden as Motorplan is about to finish. So perfect time to buy and there quite a few for sale at the time. And probably at their lowest price point as they seem to have already started going up in value!
Anyway I bought one with 39000km, I did an extended Motorplan for a year, which will end in in July 2025. I made sure Dealership has checked everything and the car is good health, so when plan ends it’s in tip top condition.
After plan finishes I’m on my own. But it’s a car that will probably do 2000-3000km max a year.

So good luck with ur search, that awesome cars

Mileage a bit high for 1.1bar..but still 2 years on MP available.. Ayob always over charge. Great spec with the mperf exhaust and colour.

Was sitting at BMW Umhlanga towards the end of last year at 37k mileage.

Too good to be true?..would need to do research..but if you willing to spend 1.1bar...resort back to the 200k price differential dilemma.

WAY too much for a no-plan car that has either been repaired without BMW approval or modded and caught. Looks like it could be both from some of the pics (Roof rails, front top right of bumper and a few others) 👀

It might be 'just a little more' but its (probably) the worst available G being put up against the best of the Fs.

You can buy a G82 M4 Comp with 28000km on it for R179K more or a clean M3 comp (with 50000km - negligible difference on miles) for R50K more (it has a very.... interesting.... interior though). It just makes no sense at all unless the car is maybe R1-1.1M.

Yeah he'd have to do some meticulous research on that G82..also you talking abt the 1.479m G82 at BMW Constantia perhaps..way over priced for a RWD.

There is a 2020 BMW F82 Comp with under 11k mileage but for 1.3m.stunning spec..being sold..packaged as a collectors bargain ..these dealerships are taking the Mickey out of us all.
