F80 Comp vs G80 Comp

hi guys,
I've searched the site for a link regarding this topic, if I've missed it please point me to the right link.

Owning one of these would be dream come true, and currently I intend on making this dream come true this year. I've been looking at autotrader and prices for the 2 are close. 2018 - 2020 F80 Comp are around R900k - R1.1m while 2021 G80 Comp R1.3m. What's your guys take on the 2 cars. Obviously I'd love the have the G80 based on the look, design, tech, and platform. I've had the F series platform and enjoyed it, granted it wasn't a ///M car. Also I find that the F80 has some character that I can't really see from the G80. If there's anyone who has had both please share your experience. Let's hear your thoughts guys.

Thanks!

Objectively the newer car is better. If you are in that rare camp that likes the look and the price delta is R200k, I'd go for that.

2 VERY different cars

F80 - rwd - stiffer suspensions setup, dct, harder ride

G80 - awd - way better daily and long trip vechile, much newer tech, zf box.

If the f80 is 1.1 vs G80 at 1.3, and You can afford the G80, its a no brainer for me.

If it's 900k vs 1.3, then 400k difference so the numbers are much different.

Yep, got to agree with Firi here, with a marginal R200k gap ... the G80 is your choice. Don't even look back at the F80 UNLESS you have a strong WANT for the F80 which will then be your choice on it.

They both lovely cars, guessing it now comes down to your requirements and what you want out of it. The F80 can be a fun weekend toy but as Firi said, the G80 can be something you can daily as well.

That 200k is around 4 - 4.5k per month on the installment. If that is within budget, the G80 is the way to go. It is more than 4k per month better imho.

With the little time I spent driving both, unless you want the snap from the DCT in the F I can't see any reason besides affordability not to go with the G.

I think you also need to consider if you want a car that might be on Motorpan or have the option to extend which may rule out most of the F8x options available. The 200k might seem steep initially but think of the peace of mind of possibly getting a car still on Motorpan for x amount of time

If you can push for 2022+ in Xdrive. It is worth it. Drive the 2021 and later one back to back if possible and make a call. I definitely felt the difference which made up my mind in getting the LCI.

If you spending 1.6m on a 22 pre lci x drive G8x which is the cheapest out there ..then I would say..go F8x rather.

The G8x prices are an absolute joke and we are paying much more for our cars in comparison to the Yanks. No G8x is worth 1.8m-2m second hand. Get yourself a stunning spec F8x Comp for around 1.2m if you can find one..or just go 23 G87 for around 1.35m. A RWD 21 G8x will be 1.4m. Resale on a RWD G8x cant be great.

Get a G80 in black to mask that face that only a mother can love..
It's grown on me, loving it now. Also if you colour code the gloss black bits on the front bumper, rocker panels and rear bumper, it really gives the car some presence. I think that's why the black looks so good as well.

Ja, no use arguing about the looks. At this point either you like it or you will never like it. @OP I see a few for the high 1.3x million of the new shape, at R1m you should be getting a previous shape with some plan left (so you can extend). I'm not sure which you prefer. For me if the delta is R200k it is hard to look beyond the new one. It's a far more usable car according to the reviews and much less likely to snap on you if you're tickling it a bit. The old one is (subjective) prettier though, especially in 4 door guise. I'm assuming this is gonna be your daily - in that case the new one is probably better in pretty much every way.

Huh? The F8x is a great daily..where did this narrative start playing out.i daily mine and it's a Jekyll & Hyde scenario. Also..the dct doesnt like bumper to bumper traffic. Sure if you want to race it like a hooligan..the backend might make you pay..but that's rwd for you and it has DCT..comparably better to a ZF. Dct is made for sports cars..ZF is not aggressive enough. The G8x is a better car..but not 500k-1bar better. If the delta is 200k which is not realistic..you mean 400k? Again stay away from the rwd new shape. It's a waste of money in the Sa mkt

I mean, anything *can* be dailied (I did for a Z4M, and technically the GT4 is my only car). I'd imagine the more comfort, better infotainment and space of the new car will make it superior as a daily *added* to the fact that it is less aggressive than the F series car (from a handling and response POV).

All this flies in the face of what I intend on doing, my kid just turned one, when she's 6/7 and we don't need all the paraphernalia we currently do I'll myself begin looking for a neat F80M3comp :p
