Downpipe, DPF Delete and tuning help (first BMW)

Hey everyone first of all thank you to everyone on this forum for all the help so far. You guys have made owning my first BMW 1000% better and I appreciate it!

Now, as some of you suspected, I've had my car just under a year now, and I am starting to look into some modifications haha.

Issue is, I dont really know a lot, and I dont know what is specific to my car vs all cars. For context, I have a 2016 320d Sport Line (F30), I think I have the 140kw B47. I'm looking at a downpipe and a DPF delete. I have a bunch of questions, but honestly any information is great, Ive done a bunch of research but its still a little "black box" for me.

  1. How will a downpipe effect my car? I spoke to Xcede in Cape Town, they said it will improve fuel consumption and some performance. But I want to try understand better how it effects my cars reliability? Will it increase wear on parts, etc.
  2. Is a DPF delete recommended or not? I've heard this has a lot of performance increase because it increases air flow and is done at the same time as a tune. But what sort of change does this bring? Performance, fuel consumption, reliability, resale issues, etc.? I tried googling and theres too many Euro forum guys clogging up my searches with complaints about people who do it.
  3. When doing the above, what is needed from a software pov? Still a little confused on what the difference is between tuning, remaps, etc. I want to increase what I can without damaging my car, increasing wear, or causing issues with resale or insurance (what they dont know cant hurt them though :p)
  4. And last of all, please just throw information at me :) I struggle to find useful information online because I dont know what is specific to car brands, engines, etc. and not

Without being disrespectful, either a search or research on the net answer all the above questions, however in short and as best as I can get to:
1. Xcede gave you all the correct answers and info, you will not regret it. You will get more power which means you will possibly drive faster so you will wear out your brakes and rack up mileage faster so services more frequently. no negatives with a DP, one of them could be the smell of diesel or fumes if the car is idled in an enclosed place for longer, it is stronger than when the car is stock for obvious reasons.
2. remove DPF and CAT and the downpipe replaces them. You can choose to keep the CAT and DPF but 9/10 you wont fit it back and any new knowledgeable owner would take the car as is as they will know they are benefitting a ton. No issues and we cannot be compared to EU cars because they have yearly inspections and it includes moaning about cars without DPFs etc because they have issues due to emissions.
3. Xcede can remap the car within reasonable limits to keep reliability, a remap is an ECU re-write and a piggyback or tuning box is like a secondary ECU that fools specific inputs in certain areas of the car to make it perform e.g. fueling, ignition, timing etc. remaps are the safest IMO because it can be customed tuned and fine tuned to your specifics on the car because every car is different.
4. Your car is a 2016, if LCi it should have a B48 engine which is a revised version on the N-series 20d engine. These are bulletproof, reliable and easily maintained. you will not regret the tune and DP, don't try to extract every little ounce of power if you want reliability, hard to get that out of a 4 cylinder. But do the remap first and then decide later BUT it will be positive and you will enjoy it. Consider having the car services every 7500 - 10000km once tuned...use the right oils and parts, don't skimp on it and it will return the favour. The vibration dampener pulley will need to be done at close to and/over 100k mileage, budget for getting that done and if it had wear, let Ash and the guys do it while the car is in for the remap and DP at the same time.

Hey! Thank you very much for the reply. Yeah, I have done a lot of research these last few days on it. But I found really inconsistent answers and not a lot related to the B47/F30, so I wanted to be sure the answers I got were right. Then for the DPF delete, I struggled to find info because it was mostly on sites like bimmerpost, and all the answers there seemed to be people complaining about DPF deletes not being allowed rather than info about them :)

Hm, didnt know about the damper pulley, will take a look at it because my car is at 112,000. I also have my car going in for its ZF gearbox inspection and flush soon (ZF quoted me about R6,400 for this) so will do that, then check the pulley then get around to the Downpipe and DPF delete and tuning.

Edit: I'm wondering, should I keep my OEM down pipe and other parts (if this is even possible) like the DPF and CAT? In case I need to have them put back in or something

You welcome bud, keep them for now and then sell them on later when you more settled on your stance on keeping the DP on the car...I am sure you will keep it though ha ha
