I almost bought this very same car but at the last minute i got a better deal on my trade-in to buy one with motorplan. All my checks on the vehicle checked out as well. The only thing is the rear tyres are two different brands across the rear axel. One side has michelins and the other side has bridgestones.

A common problem on the 2.0d is the vibration damper pulley. At that mileage it should not be an issue but it's worth doing a visual inspection for cracks

Hi Guys,

Thinking of pulling the trigger on this car. Was priced as a Xline but it's a Msport. Very clean Motorplan history. No comments or spray work. One owner.
Please let me know what to look out for. Seems like a good deal.

Thanks a lot

On the X3:
1. Vibration Dampener pulley - check this when test driving also, can hear a bit of a squeal.
2. Tyres must be the same across the axles (as mentioned above).
3. Check the gloss black parts (fender gills and rear spoiler for any discolouration and try get it replaced)
4. When test driving, check if the vehicles pulls to the left as soon as the steering isn't in hand, signs of steering rack bush going bad.
5. Auto Stop/Start must work through the test drive, if it doesn't...this points to a bad battery.
6.

to me...this is a red flag.

xDrive is extremely sensitive to wheels across one axle. having two different tyres can cause issues with the system.

Also all the tyres seem new, so why different brands, and what happen that that a dueler was fitted ?
Would recommend checking the wheel for repairs and suspension damage.

Can happen that one of the tyres got damaged on a trip to a rural area and the only tyre in stock in the correct size at the next closest town was a dueler. So yeah still need to do checks but lots of possibilities.

Thanks guys this is super helpful. Really appreciate it.

Makes sense to me that with xdrive the two tyres need to be the same. I have explained this to the dealer this morning. They advised again that the car has not been in any accidents and that on the Dekra Report, the suspension was checked and is (Very Good), meaning it has never been damaged.

They also advised the back tyres are the same profile and has the same speed/load index of 106Y which should not cause an issue? They are not willing to replace the tyre but are offering me a 2 year Innovation Group Warranty on the car.

What would be my best solution, buy the car and put a second hand Michelin Latitude with similar tread? Try sell the Dueler etc?

So in all honesty, the Innovation warranty will be around R7000 - cheaper than a set of new tyres in the rear.
If you can get under that car and check the suspension for yourself, it would be good OR even take it to BMW to get a quality check it would help.
At the end of the day, what you cannot see, you cannot trust unfortunately. You do not want to sit with suspension issues later because it can get frustrating and pricey.
I reckon get a look under, get the quality check and if all checks out then get the car and change the tyres later on.
You can easily get tyres for the car for decent prices...many breakers are selling full sets as well for R20k. ie. Rims and tyres with decent life but priority, check it out under.
In terms of tyres, I have the Latitudes and no complaints on them, and then you can even consider getting a set of Alenzas or Pirellis which come OEM on these X3s as well...they all drive very well.

Not sure what to do, as I have read on other forums that even if I put 2 Pirelli Pzero's on the back tyres to match the front tyres. The tyre tread all needs to be the same. So I would need to replace all 4 tyres?

At the moment all 4 tyres have 5mm tread at least haha.

Hi ShaunAshley, on X-drive - all 4 should ideally be the same otherwise you will encounter issues. I have experienced it on both my X1 and X3 in the past and both were sorted once I had the dealer fit all 4 of the same tyres new.

Just be wary of WBC and Dekra, unfortunately the quality of their reports do leave much to be desired (not in all cases, but have seen a decline in their ability to conduct proper checks). I had viewed many vehicles at WBC, some instances they would not allow me to send the vehicle to BMW for a check or when I did get it checked, BMW would pick up a few irregularities that were not stipulated on the dekra report. It would be simple things like oil or water leaks and/or suspension bushings that would need replacement.

Personally I wouldnt purchase from WBC unless I knew I was getting a project car that needed the work and at the right price of course.

If you are dead set on that vehicle, see if you can get it fully inspected at BMW before you purchase and have WBC sort out the tyres.

Cool getting the 2 year warranty and 2 new Pirelli Tyres for the back to match the front.
Will also take the car for Quality Check at BMW just for peace of mind.
Feeling quite happy with the outcome.

Thanks for all the advice guys, really appreciate this group a lot.

Most of us here always look for upgrades and when time is right we check in detail.

Wbc has built a brand however personally i do not trust their DEKRA reports.

Had friends and clients who has had massive issues with wbc.

When i was buying i took an obd to check myself which was objected

I ended up buying from a private dealer in durban

Always advisable doing abit of research.
Excitement can get the best of us but later on it can cost alot whicj can be avoided

Thanks guys.

I had to pay for warranty but they paid for the pirrelli p zeros and the diagnosis today.

Just got the car back from bmw century city.
Full QC check, holiday check and diagnosis and tyres fitted by them.

Car was absolutely perfect. Confirmed no accidents or spraywork. Battery perfect, brakes, suspension everything great. No leaks etc.

They put me at ease. Worth the cash for the peace of mind. Will post some pics.

Appreciate all the help.
