Hey man..what kind of wheels are those? Can you provide the specs aswell? They 20s?
They are 763M wheels that came off an M4 CS involved in an accident. They are staggered 19" fronts and 20" rears. Not sure of the offset.

Took the M for wheel alignment and balancing. Car had a slight vibration at highway speed, so the wheels needed balancing.

This is the damage that was found.

The circumference of the wheel is not bent. The damage is only on the barrel. Have not hit any potholes or debris on the road. These are 763M forged wheels. Anyone seen damage like this before? Will be taking it for assessment and see if it can be fixed. Wheel collision at TWT says it cannot be repaired. If anyone has any recommendations, please share.

Have fitted the 437M wheels for now, first time I use them since I bought the M and it came with the set. IMG-20240102-WA0095.jpg

The only thing I can think of, since the set came off a crashed car, is that they were repaired badly (too much heat/material removed/underlying welds perhaps?) and manifested this weakness afterwards? That is an awful lot of balancing weights - don't think I've ever had that many used (and suspiciously in the same area that the damage is located).

This is a beauty (M3) ….sorry about the damage. Irritation of note (time, effort, money).

I am a fan of M Performance exhausts, wish was available for my golden oldies; have heard it a few times in different cars (240i, 440i, M4 Comp, F90 M5 Comp)…..not many exhausts can touch it!

Great buy/mod. Wishing you many happy miles and smiles

Yes, it came off a crashed M4 and was repaired. I also suspect it is a bad repair. My wife took for alignment and balancing in October, they struggled to balance that wheel properly hence the weights, which I did not take notice of at the time. On seeing it now it seems the wheel was miles off balance when the balancing was done but the technicians would have seen any damage while balancing šŸ¤”

Thank you Vince.

The M Performance exhaust made a massive difference in how the car sounds and at high revs it has glorious note šŸ˜. But an equal length mid-pipe exhaust on an S55 sounds the best for me.

Man that could’ve ended really badly, those wheels shouldn’t go back on the car until each wheel is inspected by an expert and replaced with new if there are defects.

Glad nobody was injured or worse before you found the damage.

Stay safe.

Agree could have been worse. The scary thing is it's possibly been like this at least since the last wheel balancing was done and I did not feel anything at all, just a slight vibration recently.

You can have the wheels X-Rayed to look at the integrity of the repair work and weak points. Hopefully it is just the one wheel that is badly off and you can just order a new one. Some TWTs are even able to do this on-site.

This is a thread for the M3 but since the title not specific I thought I would add the other cars here to move away from maintaining multiple threads.

Late last year I sold the F30 330d after almost 7 years of ownership. I bought it with 47k km and sold with 203k km. It did not skip a beat during the time I owned it and boy was it a thrilling drive everytime I wasn't in the passenger seat. I had seller's remorse (if there is such a thing) for a long time thereafter. Some of you would have seen in a different thread that it was hijacked early this year in Durban. I took the pic below a few days before it was sold.

At the same time I sold the Discovery 4 after 18 months of ownership. Incredible that we put on 60k km on the Disco in 18 months and this was a car that I loved as I enjoyed off-road escapades every now and again. It has a Jerkyll and Hyde character to it - so plush on-road and a beast off-road. But the Land Rover reliability gremlins inevitably started creeping up and I must say although Land Rover customer service is really good their service department leaves a lot to be desired.

The plan was to use the E30 daily which I had done before and the Mrs would use the F80. This would be the case until I can find the car I was looking for. But life works in mysterious ways and the E30 had a catastrophic engine failure. Maybe I will tell the story of how that happened one day.

I then found myself without a car or sharing one car with my wife which was not ideal as I sometimes travel for work. So I had to quickly find another car. After a short search I managed to find a car that I probably would never have looked at but I am glad I did.

Que in the VW Touareg 3.0TDi V6. I was happy and wife was happy (happy wife, happy life as they say).

I call it the Porsche Cayenne lite - in line with forum direction šŸ˜‚

Did valve bounce lead to well, uhm, valve bounce...?
The engine ran dry. According to my mechanic oil was extremely low which was perplexing because I had checked the oil a few days before and level was fine, there was no leaks either.

Congrats on the Touareg bud!

How do you find VW's V6 diesel motor compared to the N57?
It's a heavier platform but this V6 engine is no slouch. It amazes me how well it links together with the 8 speed box and 4 motion. It feels and drives like a car than an SUV. The Disco had a V6 but always felt laboured.

The fuel consumption is something else. 1300km on a single tank for an SUV is amazing! Granted it does have a 90l tank.

Damn, that is brilliant bud! Definitely seems more economical than an X3/X5 30d.
