120i F20 Facelift B48 Engine Coolant Level Warning

Hi,

I have a 2017 F20 120i with the B48 engine. I keep getting coolant level low warning but then it goes away.

I lifter the engine cover to find a leaking coolant pipe. See pictures.

Is the black tank on the right of the engine bay for the coolant? I just need to fill it up with coolant to get it to BMW.

What exactly is the problem? I think it's the auxiliary pump for cooling the turbo.

Hi there

There's definitely a leak on what seems to be your coolant flange pipe. Look at the coolant residue. You can refill, but this will be a temporary solution. Let BMW run a pressure test to ascertain the source.

Thankx. I see there is another leak and that this is a known fault of the B48 engine. I topped it up but the car is now running its coolant at 111°C which is a bit high I belive. Going graph the temperature when I drive and see whats going on.

Cant take it to BMW. They will charge me a small fortune to fix it. Going to have to get it fixed somewhere else.

Ask for a quotation from BMW. Sometimes they are not thát expensive compared to other RMI-workshops.

I spoke to a guy that used to work at BMW as a mechanic. He left to work for VW. He said he would help me and wont charge labor. So going to explore that route.
