Sounds epic. Some nice machinery there. What’s the route?

Was organized by a mix of guys, but the route took us up sir lowrys, then through the winelands, over Theewaterskloof and then into Franschoek - most of the crew ended at the motor show at Lourensford but I had home matters to attend to (getting 4hrs to go driving on a Sunday morning while I leave her with a 6 week old is proof that my partner does actually love me).Sounds epic. First service complete, collecting the car later today.Any update?
What's the current mileage?
Yeah, it's definitely not pretty, whereas the outgoing M2 really was a pretty car. It looked good *and* it had presence. I think everyone on the forum knows what I think of the current BMW design trajectory. The M3/4s have been out for years, I've seen all manner of spec and modifications and it still looks like a donkey to me, so i get where you're coming from. These G87s are just not it for me..the black colour hides the very basic exterior lack of lines/curves and ofc that front.
Hardly even had a run! Been super busy at work/life the last few weeks so been just getting a morning drive to work and back on days I head in super early and hang about work later (till around 630 when traffic dies).Any updates?
What's the current mileage?
I'm expecting to do around 5000k a year, this year will be on the extreme low end with a newborn (doubt I even clear 4000 this year), but next will likely compensate and be on the upper end. I'm not *too* fussed about miles this way or that, tbh I should get that "mileage limited" insurance and save some cents, but can't really be bothered.Hardly even had a run! Mileage around 53xx, maybe 54xx by now.
I know it is difficult between family and work to make enough time to enjoy your car.Hardly even had a run! Yeah, for sure! With a 4mo old though, the truth is there are nights that are just *bad* and can't really adjust too much for that!I know it is difficult between family and work to make enough time to enjoy your car.
I made a routine that works, mostly, for me...
I elect to work 4 days a week at the office, so I enjoy that early morning (6am) and evening (6.30pm) drive. The drive alone makes the time at the office worthwhile. The 6am drive allows me to focus and recharge before the work starts. After a day of battles with stakeholders, dealing with issues, etc. I look forward to my evening drive back where I can destress.
Anyway, individual circumstances will differ and what works for one, will not work for another.
Enjoy the car as much as you can. These cars are escape pods - allowing you to escape from the realities and stress of the world for a period of time.
I need to revoke your Porsche loyalty card!!!!For the rest I've actually been taking the bus to work again 2x a week, it's faster than the car in peak traffic(some of my friends reactions when i said I take the bus over the porsche were worth recording!)
You joke, CPT property prices at this rate are gonna have me commuting in from George.I need to revoke your Porsche loyalty card!!!!
No free coffee at Porsche for you
Your solution is to move further away from work 😂
Jokes aside - also struggled with my little one and needing to make family time, so I ended up going for a 3 car solution, then selling my Porsche and getting another Volvo, etc, etc. before reverting to a simple 2 car solution.
What I learned is that the tough times will pass. My kid is now old enough to enjoy the car with me and the wife is also happy. My daughter is also becoming a Porsche afficiando - so going to car meets is also quality family time 😁
Quiet week, mileage ticking still in the mid 5xxxs levels. Went into the garage for a proper wash. I do most of the washing myself but once in a while it's worth paying for them to do a proper job somewhere.
Managed to see a half decent E36 328i parked outside, I left a post it note with my number saying I'd buy it for R15k. Haven't gotten a call yet, still waiting.
Last decent drive was a slow cruise up Franschoek pass with my partner "date-day" vibes. Still managed to see a motorbike rider who had recently lost it with his bike on it's side and him on his bum - hopefully only an injured ego.
With winter approaching chances to use the car become more limited, at least to use it as intended! But I'll try to take it for a proper drive every few weeks at least!
