I took the car in to Leo Haese Centurion yesterday for a software recall and picked it up again a few hours later. Now Carplay,navigation and voice commands no longer work,so I am well pissed off with that. Needless to say,the car will be going back first thing on Monday.
As the saying goes- Don't scratch where it doesn't itch. I should not have taken it for the recall

The car was dropped off at Leo Haese on Monday and by yesterday afternoon they still hadn't sorted the issue out,which is a bit frustrating.
The tech that deals with software/programming issues has asked me to bring it in again tomorrow.Fingers crossed they get this sorted.

Was the Carplay previously loaded via FSC key activation or via bmw connect store?
If via FSC key and feature installer this locks out the head unit.
When doing the egr re-call they would have programmed the entire car to a new I-step level. The update on the head unit would have failed causing these issues.
All they need to do is recover to FSC then remove, re-update and load the FSC again

I believe it was done with FSC key activation,but not 100% sure as it was already on the car when I bought it.
Hopefully the tech that's going to work on the car tomorrow knows about the removal,re-update and loading of FSC process and gets it sorted. Will mention it to him as well when checking the car in
Makes sense then. FSC was supposed to be removed before the car was programmed, generally the dealers don't do this as it's not an official bmw tool

Nothing really to update on this thread apart from the fact that Leo Haese still hasn't resolved the Car Play and wants me to buy Car Play from the Connected Drive store,but the rest is working as it should again.
The car has been a pleasure thus far and it makes me look forward to weekends where I get to swap keys with the wife and park the bakkie off for the weekend.Consumption is sitting on 7.8l/100 with 90% city driving in and around Centurion,which I reckon is decent under these circumstances.I am still looking forward the first long trip with it,but with the little one that might still be a few months from now.

Congrats Schalk. This is an awesome purchase and a definite classic collector's item now that they are discontinued and so scarce. Thanks for sharing the experience. I've considered a G30 520d but the 530d is the more desirable one, just not seeing any low mileage ones in the market. The guys who have them keep them.

Thanks a lot bud.I am well chuffed with the car and really happy with my purchase. I think the 520d is also an amazing car,the 20d has always been such a good allrounder and the fact that they are easier to come by means one is more likely to get a good deal on one.
