There are times where I miss the Volvo.
Your XC60 D4 beats the G01 for proper comfort and features :)
True that. Just can't help the feeling of having a Beemer in my garage again. Maybe getting a 120d for the wifey will satisfy the itch 🤔

Small issues that came up which I will ask the dealership to check (car is still on Plan):

1. I get a message saying that the SOS Emergency Call function is not working. A Google search reveals that this could be battery related.

2. Rear brakes are squeaking loudly. I think the pads were replaced last year. Not sure if just dirt or something else.

3. The driver's side door does not close properly. It seems that the latch mechanism is not catching when closing the door. I have to open the handle to reset the latch and then it closes properly.

4. The rubber on the driver door pull handle is coming loose. Not sure if this claimable as a defect or will be regarded as sign of wear and tear (though that cannot be considered normal for a premium vehicle with only 60,000km).

5. Some minor trim pieces have popped out and are now lost. Again, not acceptable on a premium vehicle. I know I can't claim for these, but just to note to G01 pre-facelift prospective owners that these vehicles are not as well put together as other Beemers. Worth noting that these came up before the car was taken to the panelbeaters:
- covering clips on the retractable rear passenger windows blinds have popped off. The blinds still work.
- the rubber stopper covers (not the stoppers themselves) where the boot/hatch door meets the boot opening have disappeared. These stoppers are on the C Pillars. The boot still closes fine.

Will take the car in soon and revert on the other items

Just for science I think we should compare the trim in our cars to assess if it is the same.

I have not experienced any of the build quality issues you have and I mean my X3 saw some serious use this past year with the birth of my daughter and the 101 airport trips for the grandparents. I'm now on 47k km and only 2 years younger than yours.

Touche

Based on my sample size of 1 :)

My car is a 2018 which is the launch year, so I guess teething issues on some early models are expected.

Though have to add that mechanically, touch wood, no issues.

My last service advisor was like a Nazi enforcer. Very strict - made me feel like they were doing me a favour for attending to any items under Plan and made a remark that the car is old so you expect things to break and Motorplan will not cover everything. I understand that some people unfairly milk their Motorplan, but surely that does not give them the right to treat all customers the same.
Got a better service advisor today.
They even have a sign on their desk saying the customer is first priority 🥇

I had an online meeting at 8am and they offered their office board room for me to use while I waited for the shuttle (I asked for the 9am lift). The car was the electric iX model (don't know what version) instead of their usual 1 series. ABM has really upped their game.

While there, I snapped these cars...

Let us know cost and fix for the emergency SOS issue. Mine popped up 3 days after the motor plan expired lol.

Have an appointment next week to get it sorted but would like to be prepared on cost if possible.

I was told it is a little battery that acts as a backup when main battery fails.
Will revert with screenshot of price when I get invoice.

Sorry @momoPike. They didn't give me in the invoice. They advised they will email me next week. Motorplan did cover it.
Apparently there is a little battery somewhere in the car that needs to be replaced and reprogramming has to be done. When I get the cost, I will advise.

I wonder if it may be worthwhile for you to ask for a goodwill gesture from BMW to cover your battery and the labour involved. Worth a shot.

I’ll chat to my service advisor next week. Since I’ve been in the last month of the motor plan I’ve noticed they aren’t as attentive or maybe they’re just too busy.

Update after dealership work done. All paid by Motorplan:

1. The SOS system battery replacement and work done to fit and program it cost R3k.
@momoPike
Screenshot_20240503_090614_Drive.jpg

2. The door latch, which seems like a factory fault on this particular G01 X3 (noting that this is only the 2nd such issue seen by the ABM dealership so far). Cost R5k
Screenshot_20240503_101240_Drive.jpg

3. Front brake pads replaced. Cost R3,500.
The car is at 63,000km now.
At 38,xxxkm (in late 2022), the front brake discs and pads were both replaced. So, life of the pads is around 25,000km which I think is fair given the use case of the car and its weight.
Interestingly, the rear brakes have not been touched since I bought the car at just under 38,000km.
(Disclaimer: I may have inaccurately mentioned rear brake pads being replaced in an earlier post on this thread).

Thank you, might consider just coding it out. Not sure if it’s needed once vehicle is out of motor plan

For emergencies, I will use rather use Tracker (some packages have a roadside alert and crash detection benefit).

However, I don't know if your BMW App connected services will require the SOS battery or if it operates on with power source.

Error when i drove the car this weekend. Just as I found my Vgate adaptor to code it out with BimmerLink etc.

No idea what happened but toddler has been sick and Mrs wasn't driving the car so who knows.

BMW Northcliff ignoring me since Motorplan ran out so no big loss.

The silver trim started peeling off. 20240601_131549.jpg

I dug away at it and it got FUBAR'd quickly. It is shocking how thinly painted this silver trim is.

So, I got my PPF person to just wrap only the silver section. Could have wrapped the entire console, but that would mean lifting off the entire console and the cost was not worth it.
Still, I think it came out well.

Otherwise, the car is going well. Coming up to 2 years in my ownership and the itch is there for replacement, but the wife is happy. I guess if I replace it, it will need to be a 3.0 diesel and that would be the longer term goal. For now, the 2.0 is sufficient

The wrap looks good Mr Y.
Its strange how the paint on the trim peeled. The trim in my car is still good. Maybe they used a different process on the G01 then the F30's

I know some G01 owners are sensitive about build quality, so I will be diplomatic :)

My F30 LCI had properly coated plastic trim. The trim on my G01 seems to have a very thin layer of coating. Not just the console, but also the sliver trim on the doors are peeling slightly (still too small to warrant a full wrap).

I assume my 2018 G01 may have been made when the factory was still being calibrated for proper production.
