It has been a lonely few months with out the E60. Who knew that not being able to look back at your car when walking away could have such an impact. My garage felt empty even though it was full and I hardly found myself in the garage.
As so it began...what car could fulfill a need but also fill the void left by Gabby. I had many needs and wants, as the days passed different cehicles caught my attention for different reasons. I found myself looking F20's, F30's, F10's, F25's, F15's. After many years of being in a 5 series, the 1 and 3 series felt a bit too cramped for me. The M140i and 340i were great packages, definitely more on the pocket rocket side of the scale but I also found that finding a decently soecced one was few and far between.
For some reason when looking at F10's I was attracted to the M5 and while I could really fault the car, I considered it almost too much... too much power with nowhere to use it. It could have just been too much of a step up for me personally, but also the ///M tax always remained in the back of my mind and would I end up spending exorbitantly on preventative maintenance.
Then there was the itch for something more family oriented, I wouldn't have minded a good F25 or F15 in diesel guise. I never a good F25 LCI 30d that I liked and the F15 were good but again finding a good specced one was difficult. The one and only F15 30d I did come across that well specced... had a touch under 200k. At this point I was kinda stuck on the F15, especially after seeing could possibly be out there, I just had to wait for the right one.
in my usual fashion, from out of left field a G30 caught my eye, albeit 520d MSport. It was at that point that I realised just how much ahead the G series was compared to the F series. I considered G03 but finding a decent spec in my budget was seemingly difficult . By this time I had convinced myself it was either proper specced F15, G03 or G30. I drove the 520d, 530d and 540i. While the 530d was the definite all-rounder there was something special about the 540i. It definitely had that business man appeal for Monday to Friday but could easily bring out the boy racer on the weekend.
Viewing this car initially seemed like every other viewing, except I couldn't test drive on the day due to technical reasons, but they were willing to bring to me on the next Tuesday. While there were 2 options on the floor, one of which being a forum members ex car which had some tasteful mods and much lower mileage, I was still drawn to the stock one with slightly higher mileage. After closer inspection, I found the vehicle was fitted with the carbon fibre MPerformance tailpieces... attached to a MPerformance exhaust which the dealer had no idea about. After that it was just a bit of back and forth trying to get the best deal and seeing what the dealer was willing to sort out. Fast forward a week and she was ready to be picked up.
