Hi All,
Recently added a 2022 Fiat 500 900T Sport to the driveway alongside my 2004 BMW E46 320d, its thread is here: https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/threads/mikes-old-man-car-bmw-e46-320d.97953/
So about the Fiat, its got 25 000km on the clock, warranty to June 2027. Got it from Getworth for a very reasonable price.
In the absolute perfect spec with all the options ticked. Day I took delivery:
Specification is a 900T 2 Cylinder Engine, 5 Speed Manual. Has Pano Roof, Projector Headlights, Auto Lights, Auto Wipers, Android Auto / Carplay, Digital Cluster, Half Cloth half Leather Seats, Cruise Control, Climate Control and quite a bit more like height adjustable seats and little things here and there.
Initial impressions are good. I have had a 2009 1.2 NA, a 2018 Abarth 1.4T and a 2011 1.4 NA and the 2 cylinder turbo is a riot - The 68kw seems like nothing but the torque is silly, 145nm in a very lumpy motor that becomes fairly raucous. It has an excellent induction noise when you rev it out too, very bike like. The 1.4T in the Abarth is a lovely thing, but this little 900T has tons of personality and adds quite a bit to the drive, its genuinely more than enough paired to the not bone shattering (like the Abarth) but firm and playful chassis with the bigger wheels.
Build quality is also a lot better, new big touch screen, new steering wheel and finishes and the new bumpers etc keep the look fresh but it is still fundamentally a 2008 model car that's been polished and refined to sell in 2023 vs a whole new gen of car like MINI for example. The start stop works nice - it has an eco mode which I am certain I will never use as it seems to simply halve the power and make the throttle limp wristed - If I wanted to drive a scooter I would just use my scooter. Its got a funky eco transition and display but its just annoying to drive it with what feels like 15kw.
The steering is weighted by speed so its really easy to park, the rear PDC has an infographic in the cluster, it has a very cool classic fiat logo on startup on both screens, the standard sound system is notably better than even the Interscope system that was in my Abarth and the doors seem to have a heavier clunk when opening and closing compared to the tin can sound I remember from my first 500 1.2L.
First weekend of ownership, Gave the little Italian some TLC.
Good wash and a coat of Angel Wax Divine with a Top Up coat of Autoglym High Gloss Sealer and then took it for a few pictures.
And then an update - 2800km in.
I adore this little car! The usability on a daily basis, easy parking, tons of torque, awesome little 2 cylinder engine and general basic setup of the car make it excellent. Consumption is 5.7L/100km since I got it, which the BMW beats but driving this and the E46 back to back is like driving a tank compared to a baby blue house fly.
Cons so far - The tank is too damn small, its 35L and it runs out its range too quick. The Android Auto is SUPER sensitive to the cable, so had to spend on an original Samsung cable which is working 100%.
I also recently found that my closest dealer has a whatsapp line for its service advisors which has been very cool for on the fly warranty queries as there are a few niggles to sort out. Got a quick response and very direct feedback on issues like the exhaust tip being skew, the indicator stalk sometimes making a clack sound - Silly stuff that they can sort at the next service.
The other night I was on Tik Tok and saw a video of an Aston Martin with a plate that caught my eye - Given my sexual preference, and that I know the show and loved it I decided to do something random....
For R235k with warranty till June 2027 and 25 000km on the clock I could not be happier with my purchase - Its typical Italian and it has some quirks and bullshit that in over 10 years of production Fiat really could have refined without breaking whats left of their bank account but my clients love it, it looks excellent on the road and the colour is insane along with the funny plate.
And for now, this is up to date.
