Good day.

I have read various articles on the web on shock brands. My question is which brand can I consider to fit. With the shocks should i do a full recon of other suspension items or can i do the shocks, control arms and stabilizer links for now. Would you recommend a shop to fit. I am in Pretoria.

I am not sure if I have sports suspension on my car but I have 17inch fitted as it came from the assembly line.

Advice would be appreciated.

As far as I know, SACHS was the OEM supplier and Goldwagen stock them. Also consider Bilstein, they might ride a bit harder - lots of info to find online. Also cant go wrong with Koni. Avoid Monroe like the plague.

How far down the rabbit hole do you want to go? How tired is your suspension? At the least do your bump stops while doing the shocks. Go in there with a pry bar and a light to find cracking/loose bushes. Any balljoints with play or torn dust covers?

Bump stops at the rear don't wear as fast so a visual inspection will tell you if you need to replace. Once the wheels are off you can check rear control arms, they usually only suffer from impact.

On the front you should do bump stops and top shock mounts at the same time. Check your control arms before just replacing by grabbing them and giving a solid tug back and forth to check for play. If they feel solid and there is no clunking when turning even when close to full lock then they should be good.

Check with Imcomex, they usually have slightly better pricing than Goldwagen and sell OE and often OEM for your car, you need to give them your VIN.

Most tyre places will help you out and charge you a basic labour fee.

You will need to have alignment done afterwards.

Give Hi-Q Gezina a ring, and ask to speak to Juanrich. he is a good friend of mine and normally does any and all work relating to steering and suspension and tires and exhaust on my car. Just tell him Francois Spietkop sent you.

He will be able to get you all the correct stuff and fit it, and he will make sure you get the best service and pay a good price.
