New run around daily (again)

So decided I needed an automatic fun run around car, that could also serve as daily ride. Loadshedding and William Nicol is not a good combination, so wanted auto.

So this time, I didn’t look for too long, drove a few options and just went ahead and bought what I thought is the perfect option.

Enter the Suzuki Swift Sport.

Great little car, amazing dynamics and handling, fun drive, weighs in at 976kg, and a decent and peppy 1.4 turbo engine. Auto box is not bad, can’t expect more at this price point.

I’ll safely leave my Audi at home and reignite my track driving with this. Let’s see how the ownership of my first ever Suzuki goes.

As usual, I started shopping for rims and suspension options before even taking delivery, as these definitely need an upgrade - well the rims more cos of size, and suspension cos of the 4x4 persona.

Excellent choice 👌
I was looking at one a while back.
These cars are firecrackers.
Manual would be best, but I understand traffic situation.
Looking forward to your updates.

I would say keep the stock rims and suspension because they will handle JHB roads well.

Thank you guys for all the well wishes.

My one week review with the car.

Did 2 trips to the office, and the odd running around to the shops, church, etc.

The good:
Very fun car to drive, excellent handling, where you can push it more than what you would expect the car to handle, decent fuel consumption.
Auto box is nice, paddle shifts for when you want extra fun.
Has all the features you need in a daily, has some surprisingly decent sound and I dig the front sports seats.
Steering wheel is nice, sporty and flat bottomed with decent quality.
Beautiful LED headlights with very nice looking DRLs that just enhance the sporty character of this car

The average:
Touch screen radio does what it needs to do; this doesn’t phase me as it has Apple Car play which is all that matters.
Some interior trim is hard cheap plastic, again I can’t expect more at this price point. This also doesn’t bother me, interior does look lekker and sporty.
Boot has enough space for what a daily needs.
Fuel tank is only 37 litres. While consumption is ok, I will be doing regular trips to the petrol stations. Today the fuel gauge looked close to empty to me, filled up and it only took 28 litres.
16” wheels, looks nice, but too small for the car.
Wheel gap is not what a ‘sport’ should be. But even though it has this terrible wheel gap, the actual car is quite low to the ground, which means it’s already scraping and touching.
The faux carbon fibre lip, side skirts and diffuser are not bad. Looks good on the car.

The bad:
No auto-lock on take off, or when you park and turn the car off. Doesn’t even open when you use the inside handle to open the door. Have to use the lock/unlock button or actual button on the door.
The mirrors has to be folded with a button, doesn’t fold with locking/unlocking car.
The back board, Yussas, I know this is a ‘cheap’ car but I’ve never felt something of such poor quality in a car before.
While it does have a rear camera, it has no parking sensors.

Pretty much sums up my experience with the Swift Sport, I have one too but in manual. TBH you can't fault the car as it makes for a fun daily at a relatively decent price point. My only gripe is with the Suzuki dealerships who don't have a sense of customer satisfaction...they're simply there to sell a car and thats it.

On Saturday I did a day trip to Sun City. I decided to use the Swift and leave the Audi at home.

We were 5 people, as my parents were visiting. First time I’ve used the car outside of Joburg, and sure was a pleasant and fun drive. Enough power to overtake trucks when needed, and to have a little fun when the roads and conditions allowed, while being comfortable.

I used the ‘longer’ route (thanks Mr_Y for the route via WhatsApp) and roads were decent.
Experienced a different side of the car versus the daily/traffic commute. Enjoying this car, and think it’s time for some aesthetic changes now

And all this with great fuel consumption.

Nish - my buddy boughta 1.2GL and resolved the central locking issue...I can check with him what he did. He took it to a local place here in Randburg and was recognized under his warranty still as well?
Let me know if I must get the deets for you? It was one of his pet peeves when he got it otherwise he loves the car!

Yes please, would appreciate that information. If I can get that sorted, will definitely help.

Thanks man
