Car looks amazing Karsh.

I wanted to ask, seeing as you owned the F30 and G20. For someone looking to get into the B58 as a weekend car/"toy" , is the a huge difference in engine and drive ability? Granted one is Xdrive and the other RWD

Hey bud all depends what your needs are.
They are both different cars from a drivability, comfort and quality perspective.
I would say if budget allows go with the g20, its a better car all round.
F30 340 is still a great car and can be an awesome fun weekend toy with some bolt on mods.

There is a difference between the b58 gen1 (F30) engine and B58 Gen 2 (G20). All depends what your end goal is. Both are great just depends on your budet.

Karsh - just from your comment above re. the different gen engines...can you give a view of how the 2 differ mostly since you owned both?
Not many okes have had that pleasure but would be quiet interesting to get the rare view of ownership around the similar conditions on both?

Hey Ash, purely on the engine alone i cant say there is a big difference in stock form from a power delivery perspective. Both are great and responsive. Yes there is more power on tap on the gen 2 which you do feel especially top end where the gen 1 used to die off. That can also be contributed to the Gen 1 software update that restricted power due to fuel issues. X drive gives you some confidence in the bends to really push it and the G Series chassis is just superior to the F Series in terms of handling/feel. Combine all that and you have a great package. Makes buying the next car all that more difficult now since i feel this is the perfect all round package that one could buy.

Hey Gents,

Been a while, not much going on apart from still enjoying the trips.

Since I owned the car for a while now thought I would share some issues I had along the way.

1) Starter motor packed up one day at the shops. Found this extremely strange but anyway replaced through motorplan and been fine since.

2) handbrake button stopped working. It would hold but release was not functioning. Crazy part is that the entire unit with gear lever and so on needed to be replaced. The button is not sold separately. Motorplan replaced. All good since.

3) Noisy Brake pads. Bmw cleaned brakes and sanded the pads. Noise went away for a couple weeks and started again. 2nd attempt at replacing disks and pads resolved the issue and has not returned.

4) Creaking roof lining/sunroof. Comman across g series models. It went in about 5 or 6 times for this. Each time replacing parts to the entire sunroof. Final attempt a month ago has resolved the issue. New pins and insulation on the roof lining mounts. So far so good. Probably the most annoying issue on this car since ownership. Glad that it's now resolved.

Other than that no major issues. Still loving it.

Latest picture after getting some quad tips to bolt on to the MPE.

Car looks awesome bro. my dream car. Send my daughter this pic earlier and she loves it. She still raves about her MD and the drive in the car. Thank you for making my baby's day awesome.

Car is looking wild bud!

Thank God for motorplan with the starter/handbrake issue as I would imagine these cost a pretty penny to replace.

Points 2, 3 & 4 are frequent issues on the m340, saw those issues pop up frequently when I did research on car. I had 3 & 4 on my car. Noisy breaks they said were normal for car even after I showed them my research that boils down to replacing the discs and pads. I just left it there, but luckily with my routine service shortly thereafter the front pads and discs needed replacement. Solved the issue completely.

I gave up on the sunroof after about 3 tries. Better now but still some slight rattles.

Also had the fuel pump issue which is a VERY common issue on the early model m340’s. Mine was sorted under mplan, but also after fault finding and replacing other part instead of listening to me when I first brought the car in.

Have more info on that fuel pump issue? Any warning signs before they go?

Not sure where you are located but take it in to ABM for that sun roof rattle. I have zero noise now. It was really annoying since its right by your head. I played music to cancel out the noise but when on conference calls it was really irritating.
I took mine in every time and gave them ample time to figure it out so im sure they know exactly were the noises are coming from now.

My only worry is that dreaded oil level issue that i see is very common overseas. Were the oil pump has to be changed. So i always check my oil level frequently to see its still working.

Have any of you guys experienced a crappy damp wet smell from the AC? It started after i took the car in for service and they changed the pollen filter. It would have a really bad smell when you first put the AC on then goes away. It did it for a few weeks after the service. After my trip to sun city and back its now gone.

I wonder if they wash the filter or actually replace them.

Yes, sorry was meaning to say oil pump and not fuel pump. Yes I got that not reading past 18% is as is widely reported on overseas forums. BMW first replaced a sensor (aparently standard procedure) and this obviously didn’t solve it (overseas forums also agree that BMW almost always 1st try the senaor route and that never solves the issue). It needs the revised oil pump which the ‘21 or ‘22 models onwards have. Mine is now fine since.

Not sure what year model you have but I think this was only an issue on the ‘19 and ‘20 year models if I remember correctly. It’s very long job on the X-drive models comapred to the RWD models they get overseas.

I’m CT based unfortunately. But in all honesty, my s/r rattle is really not THAT bad after they fettled with it.
