however I would like your guys expert thoughts on fitting a downpipe, i have a few questions.

1) how much louder will it be than stock? the S54 in my Z4 MC gives me all the eargasms i need and prefer the soft tone in the stock 330d
2) consumption? i know adding software after a dp will play an important role in this, but how much better or worst will it be after only adding just a dp?
3) resale value? i have no intention of selling anytime soon, but if i do in the future will it be less or more attractive to the next owner?
4) Reliability, in the long run will i experience any issues relating to a dp?
5) turbo longevity? is this really a myth or will it help

1. The audible difference is not intrusive with a DP only on a 30d, You will hear a bit more spool but the rest of that system will keep it not sounding like a truck!
2. Consumption improvement is definitely there, it all depends how you drive afterwards.
3. Resale value is dependent on whose buying the car, Please ensure you take your old dp and cat away with you for later if you decide to return the car to stock. A good installer will not molest any of the old pipes and returning the car to stock should not be visible.
4.+5. There should be no negative reliability issues, only positive ones. The bigger, smoother and unrestricted down pipe will assist to evacuate hot exhaust gasses out the turbo faster and creating less heat soak and increasing the longevity on the turbo itself. There is a caveat to this, if the turbo (and i am not relating to yours specifically) has had a tough life and is causing a bit of oil to burn then removing the factory cat will unmask the issue. Sadly the down pipe is then blamed for causing this smoking incorrectly. I am not to familiar on your 30d exhaust layout but there should be a cat closest to the turbo and depending on the model of 30d you have an optional DPF afterwards. If you remove the DPF then you can expect some soot collecting on your tail pipes as well as on the boot if not washed regularly.

In summary, do the DP, you wont make a mistake...

I know this has been probably discussed before , but i cant find anything Specific to help me make a decision.
I have owned a 2014 F30 330d since 2018 , the car was a one owner car (elderly gentleman) and had +/-75000km, currently has just over 103,000km now and from people i have spoken to, now is the time to fit a dp.
I have always liked suttle aesthetic mods oppose to performance mods, I've never tinkered and a complete novice in that area as honestly the 330d has enough power for me.

1. Won't be much louder at all. Dp on a f30 330d gives it a very nice, subtle sound. You will hear a bit more turbo whistle. Driving normal you won't even notice it much. Under WOT it will have a very nice tone, but as mentioned, not much louder.
I'll put it this way, my dad who's almost 60, enjoys my car and the sound when he drives it.

2. My car did get slightly lighter after fitting my dp (driving the car at normal speeds obviously).

3. Regarding resale value, your car will still attract buyers, especially proper car guys. Alternatively you can just bolt the stock dp back on if you decide to sell.

4 & 5. You wouldn't have any reliability issues at all. The car should breathe better and would put even less strain on the turbo as well.

You're welcome to pm me your number and I will send you some videos of my car.

Conclusion: Do it!

Maybe even consider doing a mild file on the car. I promise you it will be a completely different car and you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner

I have the F30 320d 185k km on teh clock so also looking into this.

Is the DP & CAT one unit?

Struggling to understand the need for a DP and CAT removal unless that is where the CAT sits, in other words same unit?

Cat is one unit, DPF is another, both removed then you will need a DownPipe fitted to replace them

Perhaps this and this will make it more clear.

The F30 320d does not have a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) in SA from what I heard.

Installing a Downpipe (DP) will mean removing the section that has a CAT.
