5 series info needed

Hey guys

Want to get started on searching for another car and have decided it must be a 5series. Just have a couple of questions.
The car will only be used on weekends so will do maybe 5k a year.

I have sort if decided on petrol, 6 cylinder.

1. Was the f10 available with the b58 ?
2. Is the v8 worth considering since I wont be daily driving it?
3. Mileage will most probably be over 100k as I will be looking at 5 year olds so any big ticket items on these i need to look out for ?

Thank

No, the B58 wasn't used in any of the GF10 models. Only 6 cylinder was the N55 (in the 535i, don't think we got the 530i but might be mistaken).

The V8 was the N63, valve stem seals were/are an issue, transferred that over to the S63, valve cover gaskets are also an issue, lots of oil consumption, fuel consumption isn't great.

If it were me, I'd probably look at the 535i (https://www.autotrader.co.za/car-for-sale/bmw/5-series/535i/26672554?vf=2&db=1&s360=0&so=1&pl=1&po=1) yes I know it's at Get Worth, just as an example.

I know there was some work done on the N63 during its lifetime that made it more reliable, but they come with hefty repair bills if something does go wrong. The 550i is a pretty rare car on our roads, your next best option would be something like a 650i coupe or GC.

You can get the GC at relatively good prices now with semi decent mileage on them. I am on my second one (in less than a year, long story), but they are awesome cars. You also get them in the 640i if you want the 6 cylinder petrol, so there's one or two options. I love my current one.

Decided to wait a while maybe add another 100k to the pool to fund the right car. Although the missus and I are at odds, she wants an x5 I want a sedan.

Missus always gets last say... Unless you don't tell her like I did 🤣
She doesn't drive so all 20 years of our marriage I sorta of steered the car choices. If I do go x5 it will have to be v8 though. I have an unholy love for the the 1st gen 4.8is models, but they are way too old now to be even considered.

One kid already has a license the next one in 3 years time so this has to last for 3 years then its 2 seater convertible time.

Although I do have the e46 wagon which I am never selling.

Have a stunning 550 available, Is not up for sale but all have a departure point.
2008 Spec list top end, infra red camera, etc, I think she's just on 70 000 Km

Thanks but 2008 older than what I'm looking for. Already have an 05 and an 07 car so want a young thing now. Lol

The refresh of the x5 on the m539 channel had got me thinking as well. I'm handy with spanners so maybe find a smoking v8 cheap cheap.

I'm in no hurry so going to spend the next couple months driving a few different variants and models and will make a decision in Jan when we back from vacation.

Watching that process so far gave me PTSD. I can’t fathom someone doing that kind of work on their own, unless it’s your job (like it is for that dude). Replacing the valve stem seals was in particular traumatizing to watch.
